이 연구는 『사슴』에 실린 시의 분석을 중심으로 백석의 독자적인 이미지 개척을 확인하고자 했다. 그의 시에서 이미지는 여타 이미지즘 시인의 그것들과 변별되기 때문이다. 2장에서는 백석이 다양한 감각 이미지들을 접합하여 시의 시공간을 채우고, 거기에 낯설지 않은 서사를 접어 넣음으로써 경험 세계로 인도하고 있음을 확인했다. 그는 인간의 ‘일상’을 예술화하고자 했다. 3장에서 검토한 것은 백석이 이러한 ‘일상’을 관용표현이나 익숙한 상황을 붙여 쓴 이른바 ‘눌변’을 적극 활용하여 삽화적 이미지로 축적한다는 사실이었다. 이로써 그의 시는 ‘구체적 보편성’을 획득하고 있었다. 4장은 『사슴』 이후 백석이 주체의 이미지를 전면화하게 된다는 사실과 그것의 효과를 살폈다. ‘일상’에서 발원하는 시의 이미지가 여기에 영향을 미쳤으며, 주체가 가진 생활인으로서의 이미지가 그의 ‘생각’만이 아닌 ‘생각하기’까지 동기화할 여지를 남긴다는 점을 확인했다. 백석의 이러한 이미지 실험은 이미지즘 시의 한계를 극복하기 위한 방안이었다. 이것은 『사슴』과 그 이후의 시편에 걸쳐 진행되었지만, 교집합은 분명했다. 이는 시집을 상재할 무렵 그의 실험이 어느 정도 완성되고 있었다는 증거이다. 시집 이후 백석의 시에서 주체의 이미지에 담긴 위무의 포즈는 그것이 낳은 미학적 결실이겠다.
This study sought to confirm Baek Seok's pioneering of his own image, focusing on the analysis of the poems contained in Deer. This is because the images in his poetry are different from those of other imagist poets. In Chapter 2, I confirmed that Baek Seok fills the time and space of poetry by combining various sensory images and leads us into the world of experience by inserting a familiar narrative into it. He sought to turn human ‘daily life’ into art. What was examined in Chapter 3 was the fact that Baek Seok accumulated such ‘daily life’ as illustrative images by attaching idiomatic expressions or familiar situations. As a result, his poetry was acquiring "concrete universality(das konkrete Allgemeine)". In Chapter 4, I looked at the fact that Baek Seok brought the image of the subject to the forefront after Deer and its effects. Thus, it was confirmed that the image of poetry originating from ‘daily life’ had an influence on this, and that the subject’s image as a person of daily life synchronizes not only his ‘thoughts’ but also his ‘thinking.’ Baek Seok's experiment with images was an attempt to overcome the limitations of imagist poetry. This progressed throughout Deer and subsequent psalms, but the intersection was clear. The pose of comfort contained in the image of the subject in Baek Seok's poetry after the poetry collection is probably the aesthetic result of it.
