이 연구는 전 세계적으로 가장 권위 있는 치어리딩 국제 관리 기구인 국제치어연맹(ICU)과 대한체육회 소속인 대한 치어리딩협회(KCA)의 유니폼 규정을 윤리적으로 고찰하여 치어리딩 유니폼에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 도모하고 학문적 기초자료를 마련하는 데 연구의 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 국제치어연맹과 대한치어리딩협회 유니폼 규정의 종합적인 내용분석과 올림픽 헌장을 바탕으로 윤리적 기준을 모색하였다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위해 치어리딩 유니폼(의상), 메이크업(분장), 헤어스타일, 액세서리, 소품으로 치어리딩 유니폼 규정을 범주화하고, 올림픽 스포츠가 추구하는 핵심 가치인 페어플레이와 스포츠맨십에 기초하여 살펴본 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘치어리딩 유니폼(의상)’은 운동선수로 존중받을 수 있도록 당위성을 갖고 규정을 준수해야 한다. 둘째, ‘치어리딩 메이크업(분장)’은 대회에서 원하는 메이크업 스타일에 대한 지침을 숙지하여 부드러운 메이크업을 통해 조화가 이루어 질 수 있어야 한다. 셋째, ‘치어리딩 헤어스타일’은 기술 수행을 방해하지 않으면서 선수의 개성과 문화적 다양성을 드러내고 편안하게 유지되어야 한다. 넷째, ‘치어리딩 액세서리’는 경기 중 선수 간 신체 접촉이 빈번한 치어리딩 고유의 특성을 고려하여 제한되어야 한다. 다섯째, ‘치어리딩 소품’은 규정 내의 소품을 활용하여 관중에게 메시지를 전달해야 한다. 치어리딩 유니폼 규정의 윤리적 접근을 통해 스포츠로서의 자리를 더욱 굳건히 하여 치어리딩이 올림픽 종목으로 나아가는 토대로 활용될 수 있기를 기대해 본다.
This study focuses on an ethical examination of the uniform regulations of the International Cheer Union(ICU), the recognized world governing body of Cheer(Cheerleading&Performance Cheer), and the Korea Cheerleading Association(KCA), affiliated with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. It aims to foster a deeper understanding of cheerleading uniforms and provide foundational academic data. This research categorizes regulations into uniforms, makeup, hairstyles, accessories, and props by conducting a comprehensive content analysis of the ICU and KCA uniform regulations and seeking ethical standards based on the Olympic Charter. It examines these categories based on the core values of Olympic sports: fair play and sportsmanship. The findings are as follows: First, ‘cheerleading uniforms’ should have the imperative to comply with regulations that ensure athletes are respected. Second, ‘cheerleading makeup’ should follow guidelines for desired makeup styles at competitions, achieving harmony through soft makeup. Third, ‘cheerleading hairstyles’ should be maintained comfortably and reveal the athletes' personalities and cultural diversity without hindering performance. Fourth, ‘cheerleading accessories’ should be limited, considering the sport's unique characteristics of frequent physical contact among athletes. Fifth, ‘cheerleading props’ should be used within regulations to convey messages to the audience. The ethical approach to cheerleading uniform regulations is hoped to solidify cheerleading's position as a sport further and serve as a foundation for its progression toward becoming an Olympic sport.
