Objectives: We aim to provide basic academic data that can help improve various types of acne by examining experimental research trends that are effective in improving acne skin in adulthood and analyzing natural ingredients that are effective for acne skin. Methods: A total of 23 research trend papers on adult acne were selected through the article search site Academic Research Information Service (Riss) and analyzed experimental components and test methods used in clinical research on adult acne. Results: Among the ingredients studied in 23 selected papers, plant-derived ingredients are 11 components in 12 papers, and 12 other components are included in 11 papers. The experimental methods of the study were 19 clinical trials and 4 cell tests. There were 19 papers that clinically tested natural-derived ingredients with guaranteed efficacy, efficacy, and stability of the extract on acne skin and face based on cell line tests on ingredients from prior research, showing acne improvement effects by increasing moisture content and improving oil, pores, and erythema. Conclusions: There were 19 papers that clinically tested natural-derived ingredients on acne skin and face, showing acne improvement effects, and cell tests focused on Raw 264.7 cell lines and P. acnes to confirm that antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects inhibit P. Acnes, etc., with a focus on inhibitory effects of cytokines, transcriptional regulators, etc., and are effective in improving acne.
