본 연구는 이주배경대학생의 대학적응 실태 분석을 통해 이주배경대학생의 대학적응을 결정하는 주요 요인이 무엇인지 고찰한 후 이를 바탕으로 이주배경대학생의 성공적인 대학적응을 위한 정부와 대학의 정책 및 행정의 방향성에 대한 시사점을 제언하고자 하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 이러한 연구 목적을 위해 14명의 이주배경대학생을 연구참여자의 심층 면담을 기반으로 한 질적 사례연구를 진행하였다. 분석 결과 이주배경대학생의 대학적응 결정요인은 2가지 범주 아래 각 3가지씩, 총 6가지 주제로 나타났다. 첫 번째 범주인 개인특성의 범주에 포함된 3가지 주제는 한국어 수준의 중요성, 이주배경 특성과 학업 내용과의 관련성, 대학 내 한국인 친구와의 관계형성 정도였다. 두 번째 범주인 환경특성의 범주에 포함된 3가지 주제는 부모의 자녀교육에 대한 관점과 태도, 각종 지원에 대한 정보 및 활용도, 체류자격의 안정성 정도였다. 이상의 분석 결과로 나타난 이주배경대학생의 대학적응 결정요인과 선행연구와의 공통점 및 차이점 비교를 통한 논의를 통하여 본 연구는 이주배경대학생의 대학적응을 위한 정부와 대학의 정책 및 행정의 방향성에 대한 주요 시사점과 개선 방안을 제언하였다.
This study aimed to analyze the state of university adjustment among students with an immigrant background to identify the key factors determining their university adaptation. Based on these findings, the study sought to propose implications for government and university policies and administrative directions to facilitate successful university adaptation for these students. To achieve this objective, a qualitative case study was conducted based on in-depth interviews with 14 students with an immigrant background. The analysis revealed six themes under two main categories as determinants of university adaptation for immigrant-background students. The first category, focusing on individual characteristics, encompassed three themes: the importance of Korean language proficiency, the relevance of immigrant background characteristics to academic content, and the extent of relationship formation with Korean peers within the university. The second category, environmental characteristics, included three themes: parents' perspectives and attitudes towards their children's education, the availability and utilization of various supports, and the degree of stability in residency status. Through the discussion of these determinants in comparison with previous studies, this study provides significant insights and recommendations for policy and administrative directions that governments and universities to support the university adaptation of immigrant background students.
