본 작품은 데이비드 호크니의 "물은 어떤 것도 될 수 있다, 어떤 색도 될 수 있고, 움직일 수 있고, 시각적으로 정해진 것이 없다" 라는 문구에서 영감을 받아, 감정의 추상성을 ‘물’이라는 매개체를 통해 시각적 형태로 표현하고, 이를 물과 같이 무언가를 담아낸다는 공통된 의미를 지니며, 감정을 담아내는 오브제를 상징하는 가방으로 디자인함으로써 입체적 형상으로 나타내고자 하였다. 작품은 감정을 시각화한 무드보드에서 파생된 회화 작품과 가방 두 점으로 이루어졌으며, 평온한 감정을 표현한 'Cozy wave', 즐거움과 기쁨을 표현한 'Bright wave', 분노, 혼란, 좌절, 후회의 혼돈의 복합적 감정을 표현한 'Chaos', 슬픔, 공허함, 우울함을 표현한 'Deep spread' 4가지의 테마로 이루어졌다. 본 작품을 제작하며 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘인간의 감정’이라는 주제를 가방디자인의 주제로 활용함으로써 그동안 가방디자인에서는 좀처럼 시도되지 않았던 새로운 주제의 접근을 모색할 수 있었다. 둘째, 회화적인 표현을 바탕으로 DTP, 열전사, 자수, 레이저커팅 등의 기법을 복합적으로 활용함으로써 조형적인 측면과 기법적인 측면에서 차별화 된 독창적인 가방디자인을 창출할 수 있었다. 셋째, 회화, 토트백, 쇼퍼백 세 작품의 유기적인 조합을 통해 상호 연계성을 갖는 하나의 테마로서 작품을 보여줌과 동시에 형식적으로 새로운 시도를 함으로써 가방이라는 아이템이 가지는 외연을 확장할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과가 인간의 감정을 예술적 디자인으로 표현한 다양한 분야의 디자인 개발 연구에 활용되기를 희망한다.
Inspired by David Hockney's phrase, "Water can be anything, it can be any color, it can be moved, it can be visually defined through a medium called "water", it has a common meaning of capturing something like water, and it is designed as a three-dimensional shape. The work consists of two paintings and bags derived from moodboards that visualize emotions, and four themes are Cozy wave, Bright wave, which expresses joy and joy, Chaos, which expresses mixed emotions of anger, confusion, frustration and regret, and Deep spread, which expresses sadness, emptiness and depression. The conclusions obtained while producing this work are as follows. First, by using the theme of 'human emotion' as the subject of bag design, it was possible to seek an approach to a new topic that had rarely been attempted in bag design. Second, based on pictorial expressions, it was possible to create an original bag design differentiated from the formative and technical aspects by using techniques such as DTP, thermal transfer, embroidery, and laser cutting in combination. Third, through the organic combination of paintings, tote bags, and shopper bags, the work was shown as a theme with interconnection, and at the same time, it was possible to expand the appearance of the item bag by making a new formal attempt. It is hoped that the results of this study will be used for design development research in various fields that express human emotions through artistic design.
