Power-to-Methane (PtM) technology is a multi-stage process where H2 is first produced by water electrolysis, which subsequently reacts with CO2 to produce green methane. This process not only offers a promising pathway for the energy saving, but enables CO2 utilization. In this short review, we briefly summarize recent research and development trends through catalyst development, improvement of reaction conditions, reactor type, and new concept proposal. Following the status of recent PtM projects around the world, we introduce domestic PtM status including the strategic roadmap for SMEs (Small and medium enterprises) and suggest perspective of PtM technology for CO2 utilization.
