이 연구는 유아의 인지·정서·행동적 자기조절을 조기에 선별하고 중재하기 위하여 부모용 유아기 자기조절 평가 척도(Self-Regulation Rating Scale)를 개발하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 아동은 수행기준에 따른 견해를 스스로 판단하고 조절하여 자유롭게 자신의 의사를 표현할 수 있다. 따라서 자기조절(self-regulation)은 아동의 기본 권리인 참여권의 향상을 도모하기 위해서도 매우 중요하다고 볼 수 있다. 평가 척도의 문항 구성은 선행연구의 고찰과 요인분석을 통하여 이루어졌다. 본 연구는 서울 및 경기지역에 거주하는 만 4, 5, 6세 유아의 어머니 427명을 연구대상으로 선정하였으며 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 요인분석을 통하여 5개의 요인으로 구성된 22개의 문항이 선출되었다. 각각의 요인은 자기점검, 규칙준수, 충동억제, 개인내 정서성, 대인간 정서성으로 명명되었으며 유아기 자기조절을 평가하기 위한 22개의 문항의 전체 신뢰도는 .76으로 산출되었다. 다음으로 유아기 자기조절 평가 척도의 준거타당도를 측정하기 위하여 25명의 교사와 123명의 유아의 어머니가 연구대상으로 선정되었다. 교사들은 123명의 유아의 자기조절을 평가하기 위해 SCRS를 사용하였으며 동시에 유아의 어머니들은 본 연구에서 개발된 유아기 자기조절 평가척도를 사용하여 유아의 자기조절을 평가하였다. 두 척도간의 전체 상관은 .68로 나타났다. 따라서 학령전기 유아의 자기조절을 평가하기 위하여 개발된 5개의 요인으로 구성된 22개의 문항은 타당하게 구성되어져 있음을 알 수 있었다.

The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument(Self-Regulation Rating Scale) in order to screen preschoolers at risk for self-regulation. Ability to regulate oneself is a necessary behavior that will enable a child to enjoy his/her participatory right. The items in the scale were developed through literature review and experts in the field. The process was followed by two additional steps. First, this study conducted a factor analysis for the validity of items. 427 preschoolers' mothers were asked to rate the ability in their child's self-regulation. The questionnaire type scale composed of 22 items of five factors: self-monitoring, following rules, impulsivity control, personal emotionality and interpersonal emotionality. Cronbach's alpha of total items were .76. Second, 25 preschool teachers were asked to rate 123 children among the age of four and six with SCRS, and children's mothers asked to rate the same children using SRS. The correlation between the two measures was .68. The result of this study indicate that the SRS is a valid and reliable scale that measures self-regulation in preschool children.
