소년소녀가장세대들이 시설에 수용되는 대신 정부와 민간(한국복지재단)의 경제적인 지원만을 받으며 이 지역사회에서 생활하고 성장한다는 것은 어려운 일이다. 그러므로 이들이 올바르게 사회에 적응·통합하는 사회성원으로 성장하기 위해서는 이들이 생활하고 있는 지역사회의 보호 · 지원이 매우 필요하다. 이를 위해서 모든 지역사회에 골고루 분포되어 있으며 인적, 재정적, 시설적, 물질적 자원의 잠재력이 풍부한 교회가 민간자원의 복지적 주체로서 소년소녀가장세대를 경제적 · 정서적 · 사회적인 다양한 측면으로 충분히 지원할 수 있다고 본다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 소년소녀가장세대를 자원봉사자를 통해 직접적으로 지원하는 교회의 사례를 조사하고 이들 자원봉사자들을 대상으로 소년소녀가장세대 지원에 대안 인식, 지원 내용, 지원에 있어서의 문제점, 더 나아가 지원방법에 있어서의 보다 전문적인 사회사업적인 접근에 대한 인식을 알아봄으로써, 교외가 효과적으로 소년소녀가장세대를 보호 · 지원하는 방안을 제시하고자 하였다. 지역사회 교회가 소년소녀가장세대를 효과적으로 지원하기 위해 첫째, 교회의 자원은 활용하는 방안과 둘째, 교회의 소년소녀가장세대를 위한 지원방법, 셋째, 효과적인 지원을 위한 교회와 지역사회 복지기관과의 연계 방안을 제안하였다.

The purpose of this study is to make a case study for the present state of churches which support and care for Teenage Family Heads by church volunteers and to provide some basic information for Teenage Family Heads effectively. The method of the study adopted by a case study from three churches and questionnaires from fifty volunteers. The results of tins research are as follows : 1. It turns out that most churches have given only economic support to Teenage Family Heads, but little direct service (including emotional and social support) has been given. 2. The volunteers believe that the most important function of the home is to give emotional support to its members and that emotional support is the first among their supports. The volunteers think that the church needs to help Teenage Family Heads because the church has close relational ties with them. 3. Through conversation and counseling, the volunteers have given emotional support. The most difficult problem is not knowing how to help them, which shows the need of volunteer education. 4. The volunteers know that social worker’s help and volunteer education are needed. As to church’s support in terms of social work, the volunteers replied that need assessment, cooperative support, services in and out of the church, and evaluation are required. Therefore, for effective care and support of Teenage Family Heads, church is required to focus on the main function of the home，giving emotional support, along with economic support, and social worker’s help and volunteer education are absolutely required. This study suggests on the three areas. First, the use of church’s resources. Second, how to support Teenage Family Heads from the church. Third, the ways of connection with social work community organizations.
