본 논문은 현재 국내에서 출판된 중급 수준의 주요 피아노 작품집을 조사하여 아홉 가지로 분류 및 분석한 연구이다. 이 연구는 국내 중급 피아노 곡집의 현황을 파악하고 교사에게 도움이 되는 실질적인 자료의 역할을 하고자 시행되었다. 연구 대상은 모 대학원 피아노 교수학과의 ‘중급 피아노 교수법 및 문헌’ 수업에서 조사하여 선별한 중급 작품집이다. 주로 21세기에 출판된 작품집 위주로 조사하였고 20세기 말부터 출판되고 있는 몇몇 주요 작품집을 포함하였다. 주요 연구 방법은 분류와 분석 방식을 선택하였다. 중급 피아노 문헌의 광범위한 조사 후 다음의 항목으로 분류하였다; 1. 연습곡집; 2. 편집 작품집(compilation); 3. 시대별 작품 모음집; 4. 피아노 명곡집; 5. 작곡가별 작품집; 6. 소나티나 작품집; 7. 콩쿠르 곡집; 8. 실용음악 작품집; 9. 해외 직접 구매가 가능한 국내 미출시 작품집. 연구 결과에 따르면 현재 국내 중급 문헌은 양적인 확장과 부분적 질적 향상을 위한 노력이 이루어지는 과도기적 시기를 지나고 있다. 레퍼토리 선택은 피아노 학습의 성패를 좌우하는 요소이므로 현재 중급 피아노 문헌의 특징과 문제점을 연구하여 교사의 교수학적 이해를 돕고 피아노 교육의 질적 향상을 추구할 필요가 있다. 이 연구는 미래의 교육학적 문헌 발달을 위하여 국내 출판사 및 저자, 편자, 그리고 미래의 저자들에게 바탕이 되는 자료의 역할을 할 것이다.

This research is to analyze and classify the main piano literature at intermediate level currently released in Korea. This study will help piano instructors understand various types of intermediate piano music collections. The research was conducted by the lecturer and graduate students in the ‘Intermediate Piano Teaching Method and Repertoire’ class. The selection includes various works published in the 21st century and some in the late 20th century. The research method classified intermediate piano literature into the following categories; 1. technical studies; 2. compilations; 3. collections of each musical period; 4. collections of masterpieces; 5. the works of specific composers; 6. sonatina collections; 7. collections of competition works; 8. non-classical music collections; 9. the works that are available only by internet overseas purchase - domestically unpublished works. The research has shown that the expansion of the intermediate repertoire in Korea over the past decade has been remarkable. Efforts are being made to quantitatively expand the repertoire and there are partially improved aspects in pedagogical qualities as well. Since the intermediate repertoire study is an important aspect in the success of piano studies the research will help teachers to improve the quality of piano education and also serve as useful data to the publishers, composers, and editors in the future.
