달크로즈의 <어린이 정원: 24개의 리듬 게임을 위한 소품>은 어린 학생들의 신체 조절 능력 향상을 돕는 리듬게임 진행을 위해 작곡되었고, 각 작품에는 음악과 잘 어우러지는 이야기가 다양한 형태로 포함되어 있다. 이에 본 연구는 음악과 이야기의 상관관계를 발견하고, 내레이션이 포함된 피아노 작품 창작의 아이디어를 모색하는 것을 목적으로 이루어졌다. 작품 분석 결과 달크로즈는 어린이들의 흥미를 끌 수 있는 동물 및 곤충, 놀이, 일상생활, 교통수단 그리고 자연 등에서 이야기의 소재를 가져온 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 이야기에 담긴 이미지, 움직임, 소리 등을 효과적으로 표현하기 위해 달크로즈가 사용한 작곡 기법은 1) 특징적 모티브의 반복적 사용, 2) 변화 화음, 다양한 음계 및 빈번한 전조를 통한 분위기 전환, 3) 내레이션과 밀접한 관계를 가지는 프레이즈 및 형식의 전개, 4) 기타 음악 요소의 선별적 적용 등으로 나타났다. 이 연구를 계기로 <어린이 정원>과 같이 특별한 교육적 목적을 가진 작품들이 보다 활발하게 창작되고, 융합 교육의 중요성이 강조되는 유·초등교육에서 이러한 작품들을 활용한 수업에 대한 관심이 높아지길 기대해 본다.

< Le Jardin d’enfants: 24 petits jeux rythmiques pour piano > published in 1930, was composed by E. Jaques-Dalcroze to use in children’s eurhythmics class. Each work includes commentaries that harmonize well with the music. Therefore, this study was conducted with the purpose of discovering the correlation between music and story and exploring ideas for creating piano works with narration. As a result of the analysis of the work, it was found that Dalcroze brought the subject of the work from animals, insects, play, daily life, transportation, and nature that could appeal to children. In addition, Dalcroze employed distinctive compositional techniques to effectively express the image, movements, and sounds embedded in the stories. These techniques include 1) repetitive use of characteristic motifs, 2) mood changes through altered chords, various scales, and frequent modulations, 3) development of phrases and forms closely related to narration, and 4) selective application of other musical elements. It is hoped that this study will lead to more active creation of works with special educational purposes, such as < Le Jardin d’enfants: 24 petits jeux rythmiques pour piano >, and to increase interest in classes using these works in kindergarten and elementary education, where the importance of convergence education is emphasized.
