디자인 픽션은 ‘가능한 미래’를 추측할 수 있는 디자인 결과물을 만들어 미래의 삶이 어떻게 변화할 것인가에 대한 논의와 아이디어를 유도하는 ‘디자인을 통한 연구’ 방법이다. 연구자는 디자인 픽션이 현재 디자이너에게 요구하는 산업의 목적이나 가치에서 벗어나 디자이너 스스로 다양한 가능성에 대해 생각하고 만들어내는 디자인 결과물을 비평의 눈으로 바라볼 수 있는데 도움을 준다고 보았다. 특히 미래의 디자이너를 위한 디자인 교육에서 디자인 픽션의 활용이 필요하다고 생각했다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 디자인 픽션의 특성을 기반으로 디자인 픽션 제작 프로세스를 제안하고 그것을 디자인 수업에서 프로젝트로 진행하는 사례연구를 진행했다. 이를 통해 디자인 픽션이 디자이너에게 다양한 분야를 융합하고 새로운 가능성을 제시할 수 있는 총체적인 관점을 가지게 하는데 유용한 도구로 효과가 있음을 확인하였다.

Design fiction is a "Research through design" method that induces discussions and ideas on how future life will change by creating design results that can guess the "possible future." The researcher found the value that design fiction helps designers to think about various possibilities and look at the design results they create from a critical perspective, escaping from the aim and values that are currently required of designers in various industries. In particular, I thought it was necessary to use design fiction in design education for future designers. Therefore, I proposed a design fiction process based on the characteristics of design fiction and conducted a case study in which it was developed as a project in design class. Through this, it was confirmed that design fiction is effective as a useful tool for designers to have a holistic perspective that can converge various fields and present new possibilities.
