2023년, 전 세계는 ‘코로나바이러스’로 인한 팬데믹 상황에서 조금씩 벗어나고 있다. 그러나 코로나바이러스는 전 세계인들에게 과거와는 다른 방식의 생활 형태에 관한 보편적 인식을 확산시켰다. 본 연구는 코로나 시대가 강제했던 마스크 착용 및 온라인에 기반한 비대면 활동이라는 요소들로부터 분열적 (다중) 주체의 특성이 현대인들에게 인식되어가는 과정을 고찰하며 이를 기반으로 동시대 예술에 나타나는 경계적 주체성의 모습을 분석하고자 한다. 코로나 상황은 전면적인 비대면 환경에서의 삶을 촉진하였다. 대면 활동의 상당 부분이 비대면 활동으로 전환되었고 현실을 대체하는 온라인 환경의 중요성이 부각되었다. 각 개인은 대안적 자기를 만들어 현실에서의 다양한 제약에서 해방되는 기회를 부여받게 된다. 근대 이후 신체를 매체로 간주하기 시작한 예술가들은 자신의 신체를 변형시켜 인간 주체가 혼성적으로 변화할 수 있는 유동적 존재임을 드러냈다. 그러나 코로나 환경에서의 동시대 예술은 인간 주체 안에 내재한 잠재적 타자성으로부터 주체성의 확립을 시도한다. 시-공간을 다층적인 양식으로 분화시킨 온라인 환경에서 예술은 다양한 정체성이 투사되는 장으로 작동하며 이는 예술작품의 형식적 측면을 넘어 예술가 스스로를 분화시켰다. 본 논문이 주목하는 동시대 아티스트들의 작업은 이러한 배경에서 탄생한 작품들이다. 이들은 가상의 아바타를 설정하여 작가의 메시지를 전달하는 구조를 지닌다는 점에서 형식적 유사성을 갖지만, 작가와 아바타와의 관계 설정의 측면에서 각기 다른 경계성을 드러내며 다층적 자기-투사체로서의 예술을 구성한다.

In 2023, the world is slowly emerging from the pandemic caused by the coronavirus. However, the coronavirus has spread the universal perception of a different way of life to people around the world. This study examines the process in which the characteristics of divisive subjects are recognized by modern people from the elements of mask wearing and online non-face-to-face activities forced by the COVID-19 era, and analyzes the appearance of borderline subjectivity in contemporary art. The COVID-19 situation promoted life in a completely non-face-to-face environment. Many faceto- face activities were converted to non-face-to-face activities, and the importance of an online environment that replaces reality was highlighted. Each individual was given the opportunity to create an alternative self and be freed from various constraints in reality. In an online environment that differentiates time-space into a multilayered style, art acts as a place where various identities are projected, which has differentiated the artist himself beyond the formal aspect of the artwork. The coronavirus situation strengthened this online environment, revealing different boundaries in terms of setting relationships between writers and avatars, and making art as a multilayered self-projection body.
