일제강점기 민족종교의 국권회복운동과 독립운동자금 모금운동은 종교의 기본적인 활동이었다고 할 수 있다. 이는 민족종교가 본질적으로 지니고 있는 교의에서 비롯되고 있다. 즉 민족종교가 추구하는 본질적인 교의는 한국이 세계의 중심이 된다는 것이며, 이는 곧 민족사상 또는 민족정신의 발현이었다. 또한 민족종교의 정치변혁사상은 동학사상을 연원으로 하고 있으며, 동학이 19세기 민중에게 희망을 주었듯이 민족종교의 국권회복운동과 독립운동자금 모금운동은 일제강점기 민중에게 새로운 희망을 주는 민족운동이라는 의의를 지니고 있다. 또한 민족종교가 추구하는 민족정신의 회복은 한말 민족의 정신 혼, 얼, 정기 등을 지키고 가꾸면서 독립의 그날을 대비하면 언제인가는 반드시 독립은 달성된다는 민족주의 역사학과 동일한 맥락에서 이해할 수 있지 않을까 한다. 이러한 점에서 일제강점기 민족종교의 국권회복운동과 독립운동자금 모금운동을 포함하는 민족운동은 한국독립운동사에서 새롭게 평가할 수 있다. 그러나 민족종교의 국권화복운동과 독립운동자금 모금운동의 한계도 없지 않았다. 첫째는 민족종교와 비밀결사와의 구분이 없다는 한계성이고, 둘째로는 민족종교의 국권회복운동과 독립운동자금 모금운동이 그 운동상의 실체가 모호하다는 점이다. 그리고 셋째는 민족종교의 국권화복운동은 현실 참여가 부족하였다는 점이다. 즉 민족종교의 국권화복운동의 대표적인 것은 천자등극이나 제의를 통한 국권회복은 자기를 희생하는 국외독립운동단체의 무장투쟁 등보다 구체성이 결여된 신비주의적 성격이 강하였다.

The restoration movement for national right and the fund-raising campaign were basic activity for the religion of a people in Japan’s colonial rule of Korea. These activities based on the religion of a people’s fundamental doctrine. The doctrine was ‘Korea, the heart of the world’ as the ideology of Korean people. The religion of a people’s ideas for political change was based on The Donghak peasant movement. And The religion of a people’s activities - the restoration movement for national right and the fund-raising campaign - became new hope to the people just like the Donghak in 19th century. It was similar with the nationalism history in late 19th century that had emphasized people’s spirits, soul, and energy for independence. In this way, it is valued newly in the history of Korean independence movement. However, there were a few limitations. First of all, there was no classification between the religion of a people and the secret society. Second, these movements were obscure in some ways. And lastly, the religion of a people’s the restoration movement didn’t keep their feet on the ground. Because their the restoration movement, for example, son of Heaven’s enthronement or sacrificial rites were some kind of mysticism comparing with some independence movement associations’ self-giving armed campaign in foreign countries.
