The primary purpose of this article is to examine the potential implications of generative AI, such as ChatGPT and DALL-E, on the development and educational use of the metaverse. Through a detailed comparison between ChatGPT and the metaverse trend, this paper suggests directions for the future development of the metaverse. Specifically, it explores how generative AI systems that create multimodal content can complement the creation of metaverse content and environments. Furthermore, it proposes various ways in which programs like ChatGPT can enhance the form and utilization of non-player characters (NPC) avatars and reinforce new forms of interaction within the metaverse world. Based on these findings, this article highlights the new roles of teachers in this new era and emphasizes the importance of the convergence of technologies for future education. (Jeonju University)
