งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์ความหมายและการขยาย ความหมายของคำเรียกอวัยวะ “ตีน” ในภาษาไทย โดยใช้แนวคิดนามนัยและ อุปลักษณ์ตามแนวทางของภาษาศาสตร์ปริชาน ข้อมูลที่รวบรวมได้ประกอบด้วยคำ มูล 1 คำ คำประสม 21 คำ ถ้อยความ 29 ถ้อยความ และสำนวน 8 สำนวน รวม ทั้งสิ้น 59 หน่วยภาษา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า มีการใช้ “ตีน” ทั้งตามความหมาย ประจำรูป ความหมายที่ขยายออกไปด้วยวิธีนามนัย วิธีอุปลักษณ์ และวิธีผสม วิธีการที่พบมากที่สุดคือนามนัย ปัจจุบันคำว่า “ตีน” จัดเป็นคำไม่สุภาพในภาษาไทย การใช้คำว่า “ตีน” จึงลดลงอย่างเห็นได้ชัด โดยผู้ใช้ภาษาอาจแทนที่ด้วย “เท้า” หรืออาจเลี่ยงไปใช้หน่วยภาษาอื่นที่มีความหมายเข้ากับบริบทเดียวกัน

This research aimed to analyze the meaning and meaning extension of the body part term “tiin” (foot) in Thai by means of metonymy and metaphor according to cognitive linguistics. Data collection consist of 59 items: 1 single-morpheme word, 21 compound words, 29 expressions, and 8 idioms. From the results, some items are used by lexical meaning, some are used by extended meaning with metonymic process, metaphoric process, or mixed process. Most of them are used by metaphoric process. At present “tiin” is considered a rude word, so its appearance reduces obviously. Some people use “thaaw” (the polite counterpart) instead. In some context, people may skip both “tiin” and “thaaw” and select other appropriate wordings.
