오늘날 기업경영에서 환경·사회·지배구조를 의미하는 ESG 경영이 확대되면서 기업의 환경보호와 사회활동을 기반으로 한 지속가능한 발전에 대한 요구가 대·내외적으로 확대되고 있다. 기업들은 단일 경영 주체에서 국·내외 다양한 이해관계자가 참여하는 공공·경영 영역으로 활동 영역을 확대하고 있다. 이에 따라 이해관계자에게 ESG와 같은 비금융 정보를 제공하는 것이 신규 투자를 견인하는 역할을 하기 시작하였으며, 특히 물류산업의 경우 산업 전반에 다양한 환경적, 사회적 문제가 산재해 있어 이를 통한 기업혁신이 경쟁력 확보에 상당한 효과를 가져올 것이라 기대할 수 있다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 물류기업의 ESG 활동이 기업의 재무성과와 기업가치에 유의한 영향을 미칠 것인지를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 한국기업지배구조원의 ESG 평가 등급을 주요 변수로 활용하였으며 총자산이익률(ROA)로 측정한 재무성과 및 Tobin's Q로 측정한 기업가치에 미치는 영향을 실증분석하였다. 연구 결과, 물류기업의 ESG 활동은 재무성과 및 기업가치에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 오히려 사회적 활동이 기업가치에 부정적 영향을 미친다는 결과가 나타나 물류기업의 ESG 활동 및 활동 여건이 매우 열악한 수준임을 발견할 수 있었다.

Today, as ESG management, which means environmental, social, and governance in corporate management, expands, the demand for sustainable development based on corporate environmental protection and social activities is expanding inside and outside. Companies are expanding their activities from a single management entity to the area of public management involving various stakeholders in the local and international community. As a result, providing non-financial information such as ESG to stakeholders has begun to play a role in driving new investments. In particular, in the case of the logistics industry, as various environmental and social problems are scattered throughout the industry, corporate innovation through this can be expected to have a significant and positive effect on securing competitiveness. From this point of view, this study attempted to analyze whether the ESG activities of logistics companies would have a significant effect on the financial performance and corporate value of the company. As a result of the analysis, ESG activities in the logistics industry so far have not positively affected the performance of the company, and it can be stated that integrated efforts are urgently needed for this.
