‘어쩐지’는 텍스트의 다양한 맥락에서 쓰인다. 문장을 수식하는 문장 부사의 용법 이외에도 문장과 문장 사이에서 관계 의미를 나타내는 문장 접속 기능을 하기도 한다. 문장과 문장의 접속에서 문장의 의미 층위를 구분하여 적용하면 ‘어쩐지’는 화자가 믿거나 판단한 명제와 그에 대한 근거를 연결시키는 기능을 하는 것으로 설명할 수 있다. 이는 Maat & Degand에서 제시한 인식 층위 인과 관계의 두 유형과도 일치하는 것이다. ‘어쩐지’의 양태 의미는 ‘의외성’, ‘기대논리’ 등으로 다루어졌다. 이러한 의미들은 ‘어쩐지’ 구문에서 화자에게 새로운 정보가 두 사태 간의 인과적 관계라는 점, 그 관계가 실재 세계의 관계가 아닌 화자의 인식적 관계라는 점에서 접속 의미와 관련하여 해석할 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the meaning of ‘eojjeonji’ in the context and to examine the correlation between meanings. From the perspective of text conjunction, connective meaning can be catched using various linguistic clues. Therefore, ‘eojjeonji’ can also be include in the conjunctive marker because it leads to a particular connective meaning in a generalized context. The object that ‘eojjeonji’ connects is a proposition, not a state of affaires in the real world. Also, among the layers in which connections are formed, it can represent two types of causal relation in the recognition layer. Therefore, ‘eojjeonji’ connects the speaker's reason for judgment and the result of the judgment. And the meaning of deferred realization or the meaning of expressing what was already expected is revealed. This meaning can be interpreted in relation to the basic meaning and conjunctive function of ‘eojjeonji’.
