Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine relationships among innovation capability, innovation orientation, market orientation and export performance targeting Korean SMEs. We explore the effect the market orientation between innovation capability and orientation and export performance. We attempted to provide meaningful implication for Korean SMEs that want to do business for foreign markets.
Research design, data, and methodology: A survey was conducted on 150 Korean SMEs who located in Seoul and Busan. First, an exploratory factor analysis was performed to confirm reliability and validity. Second, an multiple regression was conducted based on the reliability and exploratory factor analysis results. Third, the 3 step mediation regression by checking the effect of market orientation.
Results: First, the relationship among innovation capability, innovation orientation and market orientation are supported. Second, the relationship between innovation orientation, innovation capability and market orientation and export performance are supported. Third, the market orientation perfect mediation variable in the relationship among innovation capability, innovation orientation and export performance.
Implications: This study explored a new model for organizational capabilities focused on innovation capability and orientation. Furthermore, we explored the mediation effect of market orientation. Results shows that the innovation capability and orientation and market orientation are have positive effect on export performance. Finally, we found that the market orientation positively mediator the relationship between innovation capability and export performance and the relationship between innovation orientation and export performance. We concluded this manuscript with a discussion of managerial implications and academic contributions.
