교동과 송현동 Ⅰ군 12호분은 고분군 내 유일한 적석목곽묘로 재지적 무덤과 매장주체부 형태·복개, 매장공간 구성, 봉토 성토방식 등 축조기법과 매장의례가 전혀 다르게 확인된다. 특히 보고서 재검토를 통해 2중곽 구조일 가능성이 높고, 이 구조는 경주에서도 중대형급 이상의 높은 위계 고분에 적용되는 것으로, 12호분 피장자의 높은 위계를 나타내는 자료이다. 태환이식, 경식, 팔찌, 반지 등 착장형 유물과 함께, 사람과 동물을 그려 제사의례와 같은 특정 행위를 묘사한 것으로 추정되는 선각문 장경호 등은 쪽샘 44호분 등을 제외하면 경주에서도 거의 찾기 어려운 자료로 주목된다. 이상 검토를 통해 12호분의 주인공 또는 고분 축조세력은 ‘경주 출신 유력 세력’으로 볼 수 있다. 한편 12호분이 축조된 6세기 전엽 고분군에는 경주의 대형 봉토분 연접 방식 및 개석 상부에 다량의 천석으로 적석한 후 점토를 발라 밀봉하는 등 신라적인 요소가 고분 축조기법에 반영되었다. 또 12호분 축조 이후에는 Ⅰ군 구릉 북쪽말단부에 신라양식의 횡혈식석실분이 조성되고 이를 마지막으로 대형 봉토분이 자취를 감추게 된다. 이러한 점은 당시 창녕을 이해하는데 12호분의 축조가 가지는 의미가 크다고 할 수 있다. 이에 반해 대구 화원 성산리 1호분 5곽은 먼저 조성된 봉토에 연접되어 축조되었다. 성산리 1호분 5곽의 주인공은. 선축된 1호분 주인공과 혈연 등 관련을 가진 것으로 보인다. 착장형 위세품도 없어 선축된 주곽에 금제조익형관식, 금제세환이식, 은제성시구 등이 출토된 것과 대조를 보인다. 이를 볼 때 5곽 주인공은 선축된 1호분 주곽의 주인공보다 낮은 위계를 가진 사람일 것이다. 목곽 상부와 묘광 상부 측벽에 적석을 하였으나 매장주체부 평면형태, 벽석 축조기법 등 내부구조와 축조기법에서는 경주의 전형적인 적석목곽묘와는 다른 점이 많고 이러한 양상은 경주 주변부인 경산, 의성지역과 유사하다.

No. 12 tomb of group Ⅰof Gyodong and Songhyeon-dong tombs are the only wooden chamber tomb covered by stones in the tombs. The construction technique and burial ritual are different from the existing tombs as follows. Among the excavated relics, a long-necked jar with a pattern drawn with lines, which depicts specific acts such as ancestral rites, was excavated. Therefore, I think the main character of tomb No. 12 is a powerful force from Gyeongju. No. 5 chamber of No. 1 tomb of Seongsan-ri tombs were built by attaching to the tomb that built first. When looking at the excavated relics, it is a lower hierarchy than the main tomb(the tomb that built first) of No. 1 tomb of Seongsan-ri tombs. The shape and construction techniques of the main part of the tomb is different the typical a wooden chamber tomb covered by stones in Gyeongju. It is similar to Gyeongsan and Uiseong areas around Gyeongju.
