본 연구의 목적은 한일청소년스포츠교류사업의 역사적 발자취를 고찰하여 올바른 발전방안을 살펴보는 데 있다. 연구목적 달성을 위해 문헌 연구와 인터뷰를 시행하였으며 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 한일청소년스포츠교류사업은 2002년 한일월드컵의 성공적 개최를 위해 1997년부터 시작되었으며 이는 더욱 확대되었고 코로나 19에도 시행되었다. 둘째, 본 교류사업의 성과는 한일 간 우호증진 및 상호 이해를 높였으며 신뢰 증진, 참가 선수 경기력 향상, 개최지역의 균형발전 등의 순기능을 낳았고 국가 간 긍정적 이미지 제고에도 크게 이바지하였다. 셋째, 본 교류사업은 정부의 지원과 디지털 아카이브화가 선행되어야 하며 청소년의 눈높이에 맞는 디지털 소통, 다양한 교류 프로그램 등을 활성화하여 청소년의 능동적 참가, 한일 양국의 신뢰를 쌓는 것이 무엇보다 중요하다. 이를 통해 앞으로 본 교류사업은 꾸준히 지속하여야 하고 한·중·일 3국 청소년교류로 확장되는 추세이다. 이는 양국의 바람직한 체육 교류의 전형을 보여주었으며 앞으로도 양국이 정치적 논리를 배제하고 꾸준하게 이어갈 유구한 문화유산임을 확인할 수 있었다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the historical footsteps of the Korea-Japan Youth Sports Exchange Program and to explore the appropriate way forward. To fulfill the research objectives, literature review and interviews were conducted, and the following conclusions were obtained. First, the Korea-Japan Youth Sports Exchange Program started in 1997 for the successful hosting of the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, which was further expanded and continued to be implemented even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Second, the achievements of the program have enhanced friendship and mutual understanding between Japan and Korea, and have resulted in positive results such as enhanced trust, improved athletes' performance, and balanced development of the host region, and have contributed significantly to the positive image of the two countries. Third, this exchange project should be supported by the government and digitally archived. It is most important to activate digital communication and various programs that meet the perspective of the youth, actively engage the youth, and build trust between the two countries. Through this, the exchange project should be continued steadily in the future and expanded to a trilateral youth exchange between Korea, China, and Japan. It showed the example of a desirable sports exchange between the two countries and confirmed that it is a long-standing cultural heritage that the two countries will continue to carry on without any political issues.
