19세기 말 서구 과학계에 처음 등장한 생체역학은 러시아로 전파되면서 생리학의 영역을 넘어 스포츠, 운동, 노동, 의학, 재활 등의 영역으로 확장되었다. 20세기 초 러시아 생체역학은 생산성을 높이고 산업재해를 막는 효율적인 노동의 달성, 신체능력 향상과 신체 손상을 회복하기 위한 치료와 재활, 그리고 표현력의 증대와 내적, 외적 일치, 심신의 조화를 통한 아름다움의 달성을 목표로 삼았다. 레스갑트는 건전한 정신과 올바른 심성을 견인하는 생체역학적 교육론을 펼쳤고, 그의 제자 코간은 체계적인 생체역학 연구서 시리즈를 출판하여 러시아 생체역학의 선구로 자리매김했다. 베흐테레프가 창안한 반사학은 생체역학을 뇌과학과 신경과학, 심리학이 결합한 통합학문으로 격상시켰고, 중앙노동연구소를 창립한 가스테프는 노동 정위력과 생체역학적 기계론, 그리고 과학적 표준화를 주장했다. 20세기 초 러시아 생체역학의 발전과 분화를 살펴보는 본 논문은 궁극적으로 메이예르홀트의 생체역학이 어떤 탄생 맥락을 갖고 있는지 석명하는 데에 기여할 것이다.

Biomechanics, which first appeared in the Western scientific community at the end of the 19th century, spread to Russia and expanded beyond the realm of physiology to areas such as sports, exercise, labor, medicine, and rehabilitation. At the beginning of the 20th century, Russian biomechanics was concerned with the achievement of efficient labor to increase productivity and prevent industrial accidents, treatment and rehabilitation to improve physical abilities and recover from physical damage, and beauty through the increase of expressive power, inner and outer harmony. Marey's chronophonography, which has visual intuition, was able to grasp the change of energy at a glance by subdividing and recording human movements in stages. Lesgaft developed a theory of biomechanical education that leads to a sound mind and upright mind, and his disciple Kogan is considered a pioneer in biomechanics in Russia in that he published a series of systematic biomechanics research books and practiced various activities to spread biomechanics. Reflexology, created by Bekhterev, elevated biomechanics to an integrated discipline combining brain science, neuroscience, and psychology, Gastev, who founded the Central Labor Institute, advocated labor orientation and scientific normalization. This paper, which examines the development and differentiation of biomechanics in Russia in the early 20th century, will ultimately contribute to explaining the birth context of Meyerhold's biomechanics.
