본 논문은 상징전기 중도 장애유아의 의사소통중재 영역을 확장하고 수용도를 넓혀야 한다는 중요성에 입각하여 중도장애유아의 의사소통과 관련된 문헌들을 검토함으로서, 초기 의사소통단계에 있는 전언어기(pre-linguistic communication period) 중도 장애유아의 의사소통 특성과 발달과정을 알아보고, 특성에 따른 중재전략 및 의사소통 기술을 촉진할 수 있는 바람직한 중재 방향을 모색함으로서 초기 의사소통의 발달 단계에 있는 장애유아의 의사소통 발달을 위한 실제를 제안하고자 하였다.

pre-linguistic communication or non symbolic communication has received increasing attention to children with severe disabilities. This paper analyzed the related literatures of communication development and intervention strategies to find assisted methods about early communication interventions.
