이 글은 문학가청년협회 고전 분과 소속이었던 1946년과 민족문화의 학문적 정립을 모색하던 1962년, 조지훈이 관여했던 아동문학의 성격과 위상에 대해 헤아려 보았다. 조지훈은 광복 직후 시골 마을의 풍경을 철마다 묘사한 그림책 『우리마을』을 발간한다. 에피소드마다 가족과 친구가 등장하며 마을 공동체가 환기된다. 애국가를 부르는 아이의 모습도 등장하며 당대 시대 정신을 확인할 수 있다. 1962년 조지훈은 강소천, 김동리, 최태호, 박목월 등과 함께 『아동문학』 편집위원을 맡으며 「동화의 위치」와 「노래와 시의 관계」 등을 발표한다. 이들 글은 아동문학의 분류 모델과 방향성을 제시한다. 아동이 조지훈의 글 목록에 출현할 때마다 고전에 대한 관심도 거기 있었다. 과거의 정리와 미래에 대한 관심이 시기마다 겹쳐 있는 것인데, 이와 같은 사실을 통해 민족 문화의 주체성이 고전이라는 전통과 아동이라는 미래라는 접목을 통해 확립된다는 조지훈의 신념을 이해할 수 있었다.

This article considers the characteristics and status of children's literature in which Cho Ji-hoon was involved in 1946, when he was a member of the Classics Division of the Association of Young Writers, and in 1962, when he was seeking the academic establishment of national culture. Right after liberation, Cho Ji-hoon publishes a picture book titled Our Village, which depicts the scenery of a rural village every season. In each episode, family and friends appear and the village community is evoked. The figure of a child singing the national anthem also appears, confirming the spirit of the times. In 1962, Cho Ji-hoon served as the editorial board of 『Children’s Literature』 along with Kang So-cheon, Kim Dong-ri, Choi Tae-ho, and Park Mok-wol, and published 「The Position of Fairy Tale」 and 「The Relationship between Song and Poetry」. These articles present a classification model and direction of children's literature. Every time a child appeared in Cho Ji-hoon's writing list, interest in the classics was also there. The arrangement of the past and interest in the future overlap each time, and through this fact, we can understand Jo Ji-hoon's belief that the subjectivity of national culture is established through the grafting of the tradition of classics and the future of children.
