이 논문은 언시 민평의 생애와 유학사상에 대하여 연구한 것이다. 언시는 조선 중기 왜란과 호란의 환란시대에 유가의 문화적 가통으로 유학자로서의 올바른 도리를 익히며 지극한 효심과 효행을 실천한 처사로서 명망이 높았던 인물이다. 언시는 청명하고 온화한 천성의 성품으로 부모에 효도하고 나라에 충성하며 학문에 뜻을 두어 예법을 잘 지켰다. 그는 부모와 조상에 대한 추모 의례의 준수는 물론 봉선의식과 유훈을 지어 가정교육에도 각별한 관심과 애정을 나타냈다. 그의 일생은 청빈한 가운데 효충을 실천한 유학자로 인간을 사랑하고 생명을 존중하는 인륜적 삶이었다. 언시는 학문을 인격 함양의 토대로 보고 성현의 학문에 힘을 써서 날마다 스스로 노력한다면 성현과 거리가 멀지 않을 것이라고 피력하며, ‘성’과 ‘경’을 평생 동안 행동해야 할 일로 인간 수양의 중요한 지표로 삼고 있다. 또한 그는 대대손손 가학의 유학적 기반과 사계 김장생의 예학적 기풍에 영향을 받았고, 그의 학문에 기초한 예론을 펼치며 그 실천에 누구보다도 앞장섰다. 언시는 사람의 자식으로서 부모를 섬기는 것으로, 부모가 살아서는 봉양하고 돌아가시면 상복을 입으며 부모의 상을 마치면 부모의 제사를 지내는 것이라고 효행을 중요시했다. 그의 효행은 사람을 사랑하는 인권정신의 발로라 할 수 있다. 따라서 그의 극진한 사랑은 가깝게는 부모와 형제로부터 일가와 이웃 사람과 노복 및 짐승에 이르기까지도 유감없이 발휘되었던 것이다. 언시의 고결한 유학적 삶과 효행의 가치는 오늘날에도 우리가 다시금 바람직한 방향으로 새겨봐야 할 것이다.

This paper is a study on Eonsi Minpyeong's life and Confucianism ideas. Eonsi was renowned as a Confucian scholar who learned the right principles as a cultural family member during the Japanese invasion (倭亂) and the Manchu war (胡亂) of the mid-Joseon period and practiced filial piety and filial behavior. Eonsi is a person of pure and gentle nature, faithful to his parents, loyal to his country, and devoted himself to learning to observe etiquette. He showed special interest and affection for family education by observing memorial ceremonies for parents and ancestors, as well as by establishing a sense of vows and posthumous deeds. His life was a Confucian scholar who practiced filial piety in poverty, and he loved humans and respected life. Eonsi sees learning as the basis of character cultivation, and says that if you work hard on your own every day by using your power in the study of sages, it will not be far from sages, and uses ‘sincerity’ (誠) and ‘devotion’ (敬) as important indicators of human discipline as things to act throughout your life. In addition, he was influenced by the Confucian foundation of his grand children's family studies and the artistic style of Sagye Kim Jang-saeng, and took the lead in practicing it by carrying out the principles based on his studies. As a child of a person, Eonsi emphasized filial piety as a service to his parents, and when his parents live and die, he wears a funeral suit, and when he finishes his parents' mourning, he holds a memorial service for his parents. His filial piety can be said to be a manifestation of the human rights spirit that loves people. Therefore, his sincere love was demonstrated without regret, from parents and brothers to family, neighbors, servants and beasts. Even today, we should engrave the value of the noble Confucian life and filial piety of Eonsi in a desirable direction.
