유다 왕 여호람의 생애는 열왕기하 8장 16-24절과 그 평행본문인 역대하 21장 2-20절에 기록되어 있다. 분량으로 보면 여호람의 생애가 열왕기하 8장에서는 아홉 절에 기록된 반면 역대하 21장에는 열왕기하의 두 배가 넘는 열아홉 절에 걸쳐 기록되어 있다. 역대기 저자는 열왕기하의 여호람 본문을 대부분 받아들이고 자신의 고유한 자료(Sondergut)를 추가하여 열왕기 본문을 두 배 이상 확장시켰다. 이 소론에서 필자는 역대기 저자의 의도를 파악하기 위해 열왕기와 역대기의 여호람 기사를 비교, 분석하였다. 두 본문의 효과적 비교를 위해 먼저 열왕기와 역대기의 평행본문을 비교, 분석한 후 역대기의 고유자료에 나타난 역대기 저자의 의도를 탐색하였고 그 결과 열왕기의 여호람 기사를 수정, 확대한 역대기 저자의 의도가 드러났다. 열왕기의 여호람 기사에서 여호람은 아합의 집과 같이 하여 이스라엘 왕들의 길을 걸은 악한 왕이었지만 여호와께서 그의 종 다윗을 위하여 유다 멸하기를 즐겨하지 아니하였음을 기록하였다. 역대기 저자는 열왕기 본문의 수정과 확장을 통해 여호람의 악함과 여호와께서 다윗에게 주신 약속의 주제를 심화하고 이에 더하여 역대기의 주요 주제인 여호와의 보응을 강조하였다.

The life of Jehoram, king of Judah, is recorded in 2 Kings 8:16-24 and its parallel passage, 2 Chronicles 21:2-20. In terms of length, while the life of Jehoram in 2 Kings 8 is recorded in nine verses, 2 Chronicles 21 spends nineteen verses for the Jehoram narrative, which is more than two times longer than the Jehoram narrative in 2 Kings 8. The Chronicler enlarged the Kings’ Jehoram narrative by receiving most of the Kings’ Jehoram narrative and adding the Chronicler’s own source(Sondergut). In order to grasp the Chronicler’s intention in the Jehoram narrative, I compared and analyzed the Jehoram narratives in Kings and Chronicles. For the sake of of effective comparison, I examined the parallel passages of Kings and Chronicles, and then searched for the Chronicler’s intention in the Chronicler’s own source. By the investigation of the Chronicler’s alteration and addition, the Chronicler’s intention is revealed. In the Kings’ Jehoram narrative Jehoram was an evil king who walked in the ways of the Israelite kings following the house of Ahab. Nevertheless, Yahweh would not destory the kingdom of Judah for his servant David. The Chronicler, through the alteration and enlargement of the Kings’ passage, not only deepened the themes of Jehoram’s wickedness and the Davidic covenant, but stressed the theme of Yahweh’s retribution, which is one of the major concerns of the Chronicler.
