본 연구는 국어에서 주로 나타나는 의미중복 한자 표현에 대해 재정의하고 의미중복 한자어의 특성과 그 발생 원인에 대해 분석하는 내용이다. 본 연구는 기존 연구들과는 다른 시각으로 의미중복 한자 표현의 의미중복 유무(有無)의 진위에 주목하여 명확한 기준으로 중복유형을 재분류하였고, 동시에 의미중복의 정의를 보완하여 재정의 하였다. 본 연구는 먼저 의미중복 한자어가 나타난 예문들을 각각 형태와 통사적 특징에 따라 유형을 나눴다. 특히 기존 연구에서 많이 사용했던 예문에서 나타나는 의미중복 여부의 유무에 주목하였다. 『표준국어대사전』에 실린 뜻풀이를 바탕으로 하여 복합어의 내부에서 의미중복으로 여겨지는 부분들의 의미를 비교·분석하였고, 그에 따라 중복 여부의 유무를 재검증하였다. 또한 ‘형태적 의미중복 한자 복합어’의 중복 여부를 분석하기 위해 임지룡(1983)에서 제시한 의미중복의 정의에 근거하여, 의미중복 한자 복합어의 중복 여부를 검증할 수 있는 공식 ‘XY=X=Y’를 제안하였다. 이 공식으로 기존 연구에서 의미중복 예문으로 여겨진 합성어들의 중복 여부 진위를 다시 재검증하고 의미 중복 한자어의 중복되는 양상 역시 함께 분류하였다. 또한 ‘통사적 의미중복 한자어’ 예문들의 중복 여부 및 중복 양상까지 재검증하여 확인했는데, ‘통사적 의미중복 한자어’의 중복 여부를 확인하기 위해서는 2차례의 확인 방법이 요구되는 것을 정밀히 제시하며 형태적 의미중복 한자어보다는 훨씬 복잡하고 접근하기 어려운 것을 보였다. 앞서 살펴본 논의를 토대로 본 연구 마지막 부분에서는 그간 기존 연구에서 내렸던 의미중복 한자어의 정의를 추가 보완하였고, 동시에 의미중복 한자어의 범위를 재설정하였다.

This study redefines the meaningful overlapping Chinese character expression that mainly appears in the Korean language, and analyzes the characteristics of meaningful overlapping characters and the causes of their occurrence. This study focused on the presence or absence of meaning duplication in the example sentences used in previous studies. This study proposed the formula 'XY=X=Y' that can verify whether a compound word with overlapping meanings is duplicated. With this formula, the authenticity of compound words, which were considered examples of meaning duplication in previous studies, was re-verified, and overlapping patterns of meaning duplication Chinese characters were also classified. According to the analysis results, Chinese characters with overlapping meanings show various overlapping patterns. First, in the case of simple morphological repetition without semantic overlap. Second, it is a form of semantic overlap, but it is an essential component to solve the ambiguity. Third, when the semantic overlap component is completely surplus. Third, when the semantic redundancy is completely surplus. In the last part of this study, the definition of meaningful overlapping Chinese characters made in previous studies was additionally supplemented. At the same time, the range of Chinese characters with overlapping meanings was also set.
