본 논문은 현대 사회에서 서예가 소통의 예술이 되는 방안으로 서예의 사회참여적 특성에 중점을 두고 출발한다. 서예는 전통적으로 文人정신을 예술로 승화한 유학자의 사회참여예술로 분류할 수 있다. 사회참여예술은 사회적 존재로서의 개인이 예술을 매개로 사회와 상호작용하는 실질적 행위로 이해할 수 있고, 작품을 창작하는 과정 자체가 사회적이라는 특징이 있다. 유학자는 현실의 문제에 민감하게 반응하며 세상을 향한 진퇴를 결정하였고, 혼란한 정치적 상황을 맞이하여 잠시 자연에 은거하는 경우 ‘홀로 있음을 삼가는[愼其獨]’ 修身을 중시하였다. 수신은 언제든지 사회로 나가 뜻을 펼치기 위해 준비하는 자기 공부이므로 독서와 수양 가운데 행해지는 서예는 사회적 행위에 해당한다. 본 연구의 목표는 첫째, 유가의 仁義가 서예의 인성론적 기초임을 밝히는 것이다. 이를 근거로 둘째, 禮樂사상의 同樂이 사회적 기능으로 작용했음을 논증하여 서예가 사회 참여예술로서 성립하는 가능성을 모색하는 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 仁義에 근거한 예악으로 함께 즐거움을 누리고 조화로운 세상을 제시한 유가적 관점에서 기초 작업을 수행할 것이다.

This paper starts with an emphasis on the social participatory characteristics of calligraphy as a way for calligraphy to become an art of communication in modern society. Calligraphy can be classified as the socially engaged art of Confucian scholars who have traditionally sublimated the spirit of literary people into art. Socially engaged art can be understood as a practical act in which an individual as a social being interacts with society through art, and the process of creating a work itself is social. The Confucian scholar reacted sensitively to the problems of reality and decided to advance and retreat toward the world. In addition, in the face of a chaotic political situation, it was important to develop in case of hiding in nature for a while. Calligraphy among reading and training is a social act because he prepared himself to go out into society at any time and spread his will. First, the goal of this study is to reveal that Confucianism's benevolence is the basis of personality theory of calligraphy. Based on this, second, it is to prove that the 同樂of the 禮樂idea served as a social function to explore the possibility that calligraphy can be established as a social participatory art. Therefore, this study will carry out basic work from a valuable perspective that presents a world of joy and harmony together with art music based on benevolence.
