(연구배경 및 목적) 최근 지역의 도시들은 경제개발의 가속화로 인해 도시화가 급격하게 진행되면서 많은 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 이는 인구 집중화, 과밀화, 대도시와 지역 간 양극화, 과도한 개발로 인한 자연경관 훼손, 고유의 지역 정체성 상실 등으로 다양하게 표출되고 있다. 이러한 시점에서 지역의 도시들은 지역이 가지고 있는 차별화된 요소들을 통해 지역만의 도시 이미지를 찾고, 이를 통해 지속 가능한 지역 정체성을 확립하는 방법 모색이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 지역의 정체성의 중요성에 초점을 맞추고, 지역 정체성의 구성 요소와 표현 특성 등을 도출하여 지역의 정체성을 공공시설물에 적용할 때 활용 가능한 구성 요소들의 디자인 방향성을 제시하고자 한다. (연구방법) 이론적 고찰은 기존 선행연구를 통한 문헌 연구를 바탕으로 지역 정체성의 개념 및 구성 요소, 지역 정체성의 특성에 관해 연구하고, 기존 선행연구의 분석을 통해 지역 정체성의 구성 요소를 도출한 후, 이를 바탕으로 공공시설물의 평가항목 및 요소와의 비교분석을 통해 지역 정체성을 고려한 공공시설물의 표현 특성을 연구하고자 한다. (결과) 지역 활성화 관련 선행연구들의 분석을 통해 도출한 지역 정체성 구성 요소는 역사성, 문화성, 경관성, 산업성, 상징성의 5개 요소로 유형화할 수 있다. 이는 공공디자인 영역에서 평가항목으로 활용되는 요소와 같은 의미로 사용할 수 있는 요소로서, 지역의 역사 정체성을 표현하기 위해서는 공공디자인 항목에서 접근성, 경관성, 지속가능성, 상징성 등의 적용이 가능하며, 문화 정체성은 접근성, 지속가능성, 상징성, 사회적 교류 등을 활용할 수 있고, 경관 정체성은 접근성, 안전성, 경관성, 쾌적성, 심미성, 상징성 등의 요소를 통해 공공시설물에 표현이 가능하다. 산업 정체성은 접근성, 사용성, 기능성, 경제성, 시공성, 안전성 등이 필요하며, 상징 정체성의 경우에는 접근성, 경관성, 심미성, 지속가능성, 상징성 등이 요구된다. 여기에 접근성, 공공성, 지역 정체성은 모든 요소에 기본적으로 포함된다. (결론) 도시환경에서 지역 활성화를 위해서는 지역의 정체성 확립은 매우 중요하다. 이는 지역만이 가지고 있는 고유의 요소들을 통해 다른 지역과의 차별화와 함께 지역만의 이미지를 표현할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 지역의 도시경쟁력을 구축할 수 있다. 따라서 지역만의 정체성을 표현할 수 있는 구성 요소들을 도출하여 이를 지역의 공공시설물에 적극적으로 활용할 수 있도록 계획되어야 한다. 이를 통해서 지역 정체성을 고려한 공공시설물이 적용된다면, 지역만의 이미지 정립과 상징적 역할을 함과 동시에 지역의 구성원들에게 자긍심을 고취시키는 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다.

(Background and Purpose) Due to the acceleration of economic development and urbanization, many problems are occurring in local cities. It is expressed in various ways, such as population concentration and overcrowding, bipolarization between big cities and regions, damage to natural landscapes due to excessive development, and loss of unique local identity. At this point, local cities are required to find a local city image through differentiated local elements, and to find a way to establish a sustainable local identity. Therefore, this study aims to focus on the importance of local identity, to derive local identity elements and expressive characteristics, and to present the design direction of elements that can be used when applying local identity to public facilities. (Method) This study is to recognize the characteristics and design direction of public facilities considering local identity, and the scope and method of the study will be conducted as follows. In the theoretical review, it studies the concept and elements of local identity, and the characteristics of local identity based on literature review through previous studies, derives local identity elements through analysis of previous studies, based on which it aims to study the expressive characteristics of public facilities considering local identity through comparative analysis with evaluation items and elements of public facilities. (Results) Local identity elements derived through the analysis of previous studies related to regional revitalization can be categorized into five elements: historicity, culturality, landscape, industriality, and symbolism. The elements can be used in the same sense as elements used as evaluation items in the public design sector. Regional historical identity requires accessibility, landscape, sustainability, and symbolism in public design items, cultural identity requires accessibility, sustainability, symbolism, and social interaction, and landscape identity requires accessibility, safety, landscape, comfort, aesthetic, and symbolism to be expressed in public facilities. Industrial identity requires accessibility, usability, functionality, economic feasibility, constructability, and safety, and symbol identity requires accessibility, landscape, aesthetic, sustainability, and symbolism. Here, accessibility, publicity, and local identity are basically included in all elements. (Conclusions) Establishing a local identity is very important for regional revitalization in an urban environment. Local images can be expressed with unique local elements along with differentiation from other regions, through which it is possible to build regional urban competitiveness. Therefore, it should be planned to derive local identity elements and actively utilize them for local public facilities. If public facilities considering local identity are applied, it is expected to play a symbolic role by establishing a unique local image, and at the same time inspire pride in community members.
