면역철학은 면역학에서 발생되는 문제에 대해 철학적인 접근을 하는 학문이다. 면역학은 신약개발과 임상 등 현실과 직접적으로 닿아 있는 실용학문의 특성 역시 가지고 있어 면역철학의 문제 역시 실생활과 밀접한 연관성이 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 면역학의 핵심 이론 중 “자기(self)”와 “비자기(nonself)” 구분에 대한 고찰을 해보고자 한다. 또한 현재 항체 신약개발에서 중요한 문제 중 하나인 면역원성 문제를 중심으로 면역원성을 극복하고자 도입한 항체 인간화(antibody humanization)의 “인간스러움(humanness)” 역시 자기/비자기 이론의 연장선에서 인간/비인간의 이분법적 개념틀로 이해하고 있음을 살펴보고자 한다.

The philosophy of immunology tackles the problems of immunology. As immunology has many practical applications, the problem of immunology is closely related to our daily lives. Here, I inquire into the core theory of immunology: the discrimination between “self” and “nonself”. I also show that the concepts of humanness and humanization in the development of therapeutic antibodies are essentially an extended view of the self/nonself dichotomy.
