본 연구는 자원기반이론의 관점에서 한국프로농구팀의 승리에 영향을 미치는 프로스포츠팀 고유의 자원적 속성에 대해 규명하고 실증분석하였다. 이를 위해 프로스포츠팀이 내재하고 있는 조직 자원을 효과적으로 운용하여 팀의 승리로 변환할 수 있는 능력을 팀 운영 효율성이라고 정의하고 해당 결정요인을 팀 정규리그 승률에 영향을 미치는 중요한 요인 중의 하나로 제안하였다. 팀 운영 효율성을 추산하기 위해 9년간의 (2013~2014 - 2021~2022시즌) 정규리그에서 한국프로농구 구단의 보수총액, 샐러리캡소진율, 집합적인 경기성적(팀 득점, 리바운드, 블록, 스틸 등 9개 요인)과 팀 경기성과에 관한 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 팀 운영 효율성 분석을 실행하여 한국프로농구팀의 상대적 효율성을 평가하기 위해 자료포락분석(DEA)을 활용하였다. 연구 결과, 팀 운영 효율성과 정규리그 승률 간에는 높은 상관관계가 존재한다는 것을 확인하였다. 팀 운영 효율성이 정규리그 승률에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위하여 추가로 패널회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 한국프로농구팀이 투입한 보수총액과 샐러리캡 소진율 및 선수들의 경기성적을 통제한 후에도 팀 운영 효율성은 팀 승률에 유의한 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 바탕으로, 팀 운영 효율성은 한국프로농구팀의 내재하고 있는 고유한 승률 결정 요인의 특성이며 개별 팀들이 한국프로농구 리그에서 비교 경쟁우위를 점할 수 있도록 선행되는 중요한 조직 자원이라는 것을 실증하였다.

The purpose of this research is to scrutinize excavating determinants of Korean professional basketball teams specifically focused on team management efficiency that leads to team performance through the lens of resource-based theory. We suggest that team management efficiency is one of the most principal factors that affect win creation in the competitive league environment. Management efficiency of professional sports teams reflects the ability to transfer organizational resources into win productivity. To rigorously estimate and empirically measure team management efficiency we collected performance data of Korean Basketball League professional teams (points, rebounds, blocks, and steals), total compensation, and salary cap percentage, along with team performance indices. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is assessed to estimate team management efficiency. The results revealed that there is a statistically significant correlation between win percentage and team efficiency. We also operate GLS regression analysis and provide empirical results that indicate team management efficiency to be associated with the winning percentage of regular season operation. This implies that team management efficiency is one of the KBL professional teams’ unique resource-based features. Furthermore, it is important to understand organizational resources conducive to KBL teams may achieve opportunities for sustainable competitive advantage in the league.
