본 연구의 목적은 교육부와 문화체육관광부에서 정책적으로 시행하고 있는 “공부하는 학생선수, 운동하는 일반학생”에 대해 비판적 시각을 가지고 국내외의 관련연구와 문헌을 통해 학생선수의 공부에 대한 정의와 방향에 대해 고찰하였다. 첫째, 학생선수의 공부에 대한 정의. 공부의 목적은 읽기, 쓰기 암기하기, 문제풀이를 통해 이해력, 수리력, 분석력, 사고력, 논리력 더 나아가 직관과 통찰의 능력을 갖추는게 목적이다. 따라서 학생선수는 운동이라는 자기전문분야에서 다양한 문제 상황을 탐구, 분석, 추리, 이해를 바탕으로 문제를 해결하고, 더 나아가 직관과 통찰력을 가지는 것이다. 둘째, 학생선수의 공부의 방향. 학습자의 경험을 바탕으로 학습이 이루어지면 학습의 효율성이 높아진다. 따라서 학생선수는 운동을 중심으로 공부를 할 때 그 효율성이 높아진다. 즉, 학생선수는 운동에 대해 고민하고, 시도하고, 또 그와 관련된 서적을 통해 탐구력, 사고력, 분석력, 추리력, 이해력 등을 기르고, 더 나아가 직관과 통찰의 역량을 함양해야 할 것이다. 또한 지도자의 지도방법이 학생선수들로 하여금 탐구하며 문제를 해결할 수 있도록 지도되어야 하겠다.

This research result : First, the definition of student athlete's study. The purpose of the study is to acquire the ability of comprehension, numeracy, analytical, thinking, logic and further intuition and insight through reading, writing, memorizing and solving problems. Therefore, student athletes should be able to solve problems based on their investigation, analysis, reasoning and understanding of various situations that occur in their professional field of exercise, and to have more intuition and insight in their fields. Second, the direction of the study for student athletes. When learning is done based on learners' experiences, learning efficiency increases. In other words, when student athletes focus on the exercise they are doing, they are highly efficient in learning. Therefore, student athletes can have their ability to explore, thinking ability, analytical skills, reasoning ability, comprehension ability (etc) easily when they study on troubled exercises through related books, and further can cultivate the ability of intuitive insight. Also, the teaching method of the instructor should focus on boosting student athletes’ ability to explore and solve the problem.
