본 연구는 정치경제학 분야의 최근 성과 특히 제도를 매개로 정치영역과 경제영역의 상호작용을 분석하는 제도주의 정치경제학의 최근성과를 간략히 소개하였다. 특히 Acemoglu와 Robinson, Rodrik 그리고 Amable과 Palombarini의 논의를 중심으로 소개하였다. 이들은 정치영역에서의 파워 분포가 경제정책과 경제제도의 선택에 영향을 주게 되고 이렇게 선택된 정책과 제도가 경제적 성과를 결정한다고 보고 있다. 그리고 이렇게 달성된 경제적 성과가 정치영역의 파워분포의 안정화를 가져온다고 주장한다. 이들 연구는 ‘기득권’, ‘균열’, ‘이데올로기’ 그리고 ‘동맹’이라는 개념을 이용하여 다양한 경제문제 (경제발전, 기술변화, 소득불평등, 시스템의 안정성)에 대하여 흥미로운 해석을 제공하고 있다. 이들은 제도와 정책이 초래하는 경제적 성과에 대한 논의이전에 이 제도와 정책이 채택되는 과정에 영향을 미치는 파워 분포와 그리고 이 정책의 시행으로 인한 파워 분포의 변화에 주목해야 한다고 주장한다.

This study briefly introduced the recent achievements in the field of political economy, that is, the recent achievements of institutionalist political economy that emphasize the interaction between the political and economic fields through institutions. In particular, we focused on the discussions of Acemoglu and Robinson, Rodrik, and Amable and Palombarini. They argue that the distribution of power in the political realm selects specific economic policies and economic institutions, and these selected policies and institutions determine economic performance. And it is argued that the economic performance achieved in this way brings about stabilization of power distribution in the political realm. These studies provide interesting perspectives on various economic problems (economic development, technological change, income inequality, system stability) using the concepts of ‘vested interests’, ‘cleavage’, ‘ideology’ and ‘alliance’. They argue that, before discussing the economic outcomes of institutions and policies, it is necessary to pay attention to the power distribution that affects the adoption of these institutions and policies and the changes in the power distribution resulting from the implementation of these policies.
