중국인들 특히 해외에 거주하는 중국인은 해외에서의 생존과 발전을 위해서 같은 화인들끼리 단체를 형성한다. 화교들은 외국인 신분으로 해외 거주국에서 다양한 제약에 당하며, 심지어는 거주국 사람들에 의해서 탄압을 받기도 하고 물질적 손실은 물론 생명의 위협도 받게 되는 상황이 자주 발생했다. 해외거주 중국인들이 탄압을 당해도 모국에서는 화교들에 대하여 어떠한 형태의 보호조치도 취하지 않았을 뿐만 아니라 해당국에 대한 경고도 내지 않았었다. 오히려 화교들을 외국에 거주하는 것을 좋아하는 무리들로서, 청나라 조정은 본국의 법을 준수하는 사람들만 돌볼 뿐, 외국에 거주하는 백성들이 박해를 당한 사안에 대해서는 그들 스스로가 자초한 것이기 때문에 돌보지 않는다고 하는 입장을 내놓기에 이른다. 이와 같은 상황 속에서 해외 거주 화교들은 스스로의 생명과 재산을 지키기 위해서 조직을 만들게 된다. 화교사회에는 다양한 종류의 조직이 형성되어 있는데 본문에서 다루고자 하는 화교사단 조직은 학회, 동향회, 종친회, 동창회, 친목회 등과 같은 비영리를 주요한 목적으로 하는 단체들의 총칭이라고 할 수 있다. 해외 화교들의 사단조직은 중국의 전통문화에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다고 할 수 있는데, 중국의 고대 역사 속에서 그 원형을 찾아볼 수 있다. 중국인들은 한 개인보다 집단을 더욱 중시하는 성향이 있는데, 중국인 사회에서 개인은 집단에 소속되어 있을 때 비로소 그 빛을 발하는 존재라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 볼 때 화교 한 개인의 성향에 대한 파악과 접근 보다 중요한 것이 바로 화교사회의 문화 즉 화교의 조직문화에 대한 정확한 인식과 파악이라고 할 수 있는 것이다.

Overseas Chinese, that is, overseas Chinese, form an organizational culture by forming a group among the same overseas Chinese for survival and development in the country of residence. As a foreigner, overseas Chinese are subject to various restrictions in their country of residence, and sometimes oppression by the people of their country of residence. In the past, there have been many situations in which casualties as well as property damage have occurred. Even if such a disaster occurred, China, the mother country, did not take any protective measures against overseas Chinese. There was no official statement of protest against the state. Rather, they treated the Chinese as a group preferring to live abroad rather than obeying their home country’s summons. Moreover, the courts of the Qing dynasty have come to the position that only those who obey the laws of their home countries care, not those who live abroad who are persecuted. Under these circumstances, Chinese people living abroad form an organization to protect their lives and property. There are various types of organizations in the Chinese society. In other words, it can be said to be a generic term for non-profit organizations such as academic societies, hometown groups, alumni associations, and social groups. Overseas Chinese organizations are rooted in traditional Chinese culture. It can be found in ancient Chinese history. The Chinese tend to value the group more than the individual. In Chinese society, individuals only shine when they belong to a group. In this context, what is more important than understanding and approaching the inclinations of overseas Chinese is an accurate recognition and understanding of the culture of the overseas Chinese society, that is, the organizational culture of overseas Chinese.
