전자상거래의 빠른 발전에 따라 온라인 쇼핑은 점차 대중화되었다. 운송과 포장 등에서 강점이 있어 가구 시장에서 넉다운(knock-down) 가구의 점유율은 갈수록 커지고 있다. 그러나 많은 넉다운 가구들은 조립과 분해 시 시간이 많이 걸리고 체력이 많이 소모되는 등의 문제를 안고 있다. 사용자가 이러한 유형의 가구에서 분해 및 조립 기능의 사용성(usability)을 감지하지 못하는 것이 주된 원인이다. 이 연구는 어포던스를 기반으로 기능적 형태를 형성할 수 있는 목공의 결합법의 큰 잠재력을 발굴하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이러한 기능적 형태는 분해와 조립의 동작을 시각화하고 단순화하는 데 도움을 준다. 연구방법은 문헌 검토와 사례 분석이다. 이들은 먼저 관련 문헌을 통해 어포던스와 기능적 형태 사이의 관계를 분석하고, 제품 기능의 사용성 향상의 필요한 조건을 제시했다. 즉, 조작의 복잡도를 낮추면서 제품과 사용자 사이의 어포던스를 사용자에게 명확하게 전달할 수 있는 기능적 형태이다. 이어 Taobao.com에서 대표적으로 간편한 넉다운 신발장을 골랐다. 사용자가 분해와 조립 후 인터넷에 남긴 관련 리뷰를 정리함으로써 저자들은 어포던스에 기초한 넉다운 가구의 기능적 형태에 관한 연구의 필요성을 객관적으로 입증했다. 다음으로 이들은 관련 어포던스를 명확히 표시하고 해당 분해 및 조립의 동작을 단순화하는 표준을 바탕으로 개선된 목공의 결합법을 사용하는 현대적 넉다운 가구의 우수 사례를 상세하게 분석했다. 그래서 이들은 목공의 결합법이 기능적 형태를 형성할 수 있는 큰 잠재력을 입증했다. 마지막으로 이들은 어포던스에 입각하여 기능적 형태의 형성을 설계 목표로 삼아 현대적 가구에 개선된 목공의 결합법을 적용하는 설계 원칙을 제시했다. 이 논문이 넉다운 가구의 사용성 향상하기 위한 연구 아이디어를 넓히는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

With the rapid development of e-commerce, online shopping has gradually become popular. As a result of the advantages in transportation and packaging, knock-down furniture is gaining a larger share of the furniture market. However, many knock-down pieces of furniture have issues like taking a long time and energy to assemble and disassemble. The main reason for this is that users cannot perceive the usability of disassembly and assembly functions in this type of furniture. This study aims to tap the mortise-and-tenon structure’s high potential for forming functional forms based on affordance, which can help visualize and simplify the actions of disassembly and assembly. It adopted literature review and case analysis methods. The authors began by reviewing relevant literature to analyze the relationship between affordance and functional form to determine the necessary condition for improving the usability of product functions――the functional form that can express to users the affordances between products and them while reducing operational complexity. The authors then went to Taobao.com and chose a representative and simple knock-down shoe cabinet. The authors objectively established the importance of studying the functional form of knock-down furniture from the perspective of affordance by sorting out pertinent comments provided by users on the Internet following disassembly and assembly. Following that, the authors examined in detail some excellent cases of modern knock-down furniture with improved mortise-and-tenon joints as structure, based on the standards of clearly indicating the relevant affordances and simplifying the corresponding disassembly and assembly actions, demonstrating the great potential of the mortise-and-tenon joints to form functional forms. Finally, the authors presented design ideas for applying improved mortise-and-tenon joints to modern knock-down furniture from the standpoint of affordance, with the construction of functional forms as the design goal. It is hoped that this paper could help broaden the research ideas on improving the usability of knock-down furniture.
