《영웅아녀》는 바진의 소설 <단원>을 각색한 영화로, 1960년대 초 중국 영화를 둘러싼 대중문예의 특징과 성격을 살피기에 적합한 작품이다. 본고는 등장인물의 비중 변화를 중심으로 <단원>과 《영웅아녀》사이에 나타나는 차이점은 무엇이고 그 차이점은 사회·정치적 이데올로기와 어떠한 연관성을 갖는지를 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 바진은 중국 전역에서의 ‘항미원조 운동’의 영향을 받아 북한 전쟁터를 방문하여 전쟁을 소재로 한 소설을 썼고, 그 작품들 중 하나인 <단원>은 군대에서 벌어지는 군사들의 생활과 가족의 헤어짐 및 만남을 그린 이야기다. <단원>은 중국 문예계를 지배한 화두였던 ‘국가’와 ‘이념’에 걸맞은 작품이라는 평가를 받으며 영화 《영웅아녀》로 각색되었다. <단원>과 《영웅아녀》의 차이점은 크게 2가지로, 줄거리의 변화와 등장인물의 비중 및 묘사의 차이로 나눌 수 있다. 줄거리를 살펴보면 《영웅아녀》는 충성스러운 군인의 각오와 혁명을 강조하기 위해 왕청이 희생하는 사건을 확대하면서, <단원>의 주제라고도 할 수 있는 전쟁 속 가족의 재회라는 사건을 축소하였다. 또한 <단원>에서 평범한 군인에 불과했던 왕청이 《영웅아녀》에서 그 비중이 매우 커지면서, <단원>의 주인공이었던 왕팡은 왕청의 영웅화에 동조하는 조연으로 비중이 크게 감소한다. 이는 인물을 혁명에 걸맞은 정치적 이데올로기에 부합하도록 하여 인민에게 광범위한 도덕적 영웅주의와 희생을 강조하던 시대성을 내포하고자 한 것이다. 그밖에 《영웅아녀》는 <단원>과 달리 집단, 국가를 중시하면서 개인의 감정을 철저히 거부하는 양상을 보인다. <단원>은 1949년 이후 발표된 많은 소설과는 차별성을 가진, 전쟁을 배경으로 가 족애를 다룬 작품이다. 하지만 이를 각색한 영화 《영웅아녀》는 엄격한 규범과 각종 제한 하에 당시의 이데올로기를 충실히 반영한 영화로, 왕청의 전투와 희생을 강조하며 영웅의 수난과 치하를 과장했지만 당시의 대중문예와 마찬가지로 당의 의지를 완벽하게 이상화하기 위한 또 하나의 전형일 뿐이었다.

Heroic Sons and Daughters is a movie adapted from Bajin’s novel Reunite, it is suitable for examining the characteristics and those of popular literature surrounding Chinese films in the early 1960s. I focused on the change in the proportion of the characters, differences between Reunite and Heroic Sons and Daughters and how they relate to the social and political ideology. Bajin visited North Korea’s battlefield and wrote a war-themed novel under the influence of the “Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea Movement” throughout China and One of the works, Reunite is a story about the lives of soldiers in the military, the separation and the meeting of their families. It was adapted into a film, considered worthy of the “national” and “principle” that dominated the Chinese literary world. There are two main differences between Reunite and Heroic Sons and Daughters, which can be divided into the difference between the plot change and the weight and description of the characters. If you look at the plot, Heroic Sons and Daughters expanded the sacrifice of Wang Cheng to emphasize the determination and revolution of loyal soldiers, it reduced the case of family reunions during the war, which can be considered as the subject of Reunite. In addition, just an ordinary soldier, Wang Cheng in Reunite becomes very popular in Heroic Sons and Daughters, the main character of Reunite Wang Fang becomes a supporting actor who sympathizes with Wang Cheng’s heroization. This intends to imply the times that emphasized a wide range of moral heroism and sacrifice to the people by conforming to the political ideology worthy of the revolution. In addition, unlike Reunite, Heroic Sons and Daughters shows a pattern of thoroughly rejecting individual emotions while placing importance on groups and countries. Reunite is a family love story set in war, different from many novels published since 1949. But the adapted movie, Heroic Sons and Daughters, faithfully reflects the ideology of the time under strict standards and restrictions. It exaggerated the hardships and tributes of heroes, emphasizing the battle and sacrifice of Wang Cheng, but like popular literature at the time, it was only another epitome to completely idealize the will of the party.
