이 글은 한국현대 가족사와 관련된 기존 연구 경향을 검토하고 향후 과제를 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 1980년대까지의 가족사 연구는 대체로 근대화론에 입각하여 핵가족적 특성을 찾아내려는 입장에서 이루어졌다. 그러나 1980년대 이후 맑시즘과 페미니즘 분석이 도입되고, 1990년대 이후 일상사, 여성사 연구 등이 확산되면서, 근대화론적 입장에서 벗어나 가족의 변화를 보다 복합적으로 설명하려는 노력이 나타났다. 이러한 시도들은 구조와 제도의 변화, 지배질서 구축을 위한 담론들과 이데올로기, 개인의 경험과 가치관 등의 사이에 놓인 상관관계에 주목하면서 가족의 변화를 보다 중층적으로 해석하고자 하였다. 또한 기존에는 거의 문제시 되지 않았던 ‘정상가족’ 규범과 그로부터 배제된 가족 경계 밖의 타자들에 대한 관심도 증가하였다. 이러한 연구들을 통해 가족사 연구는 정치경제사 중심의 한국현대사 연구를 보다 일상적이고 미시적인 차원에서 살펴볼 수 있는 계기를 만드는데 기여해 왔다. 가족사 연구의 향후 과제로는 구체적인 가족 실태 연구, ‘정상가족’상의 역사적 형성 및 변화과정 탐색, 그리고 정치와 가족 관계에 대한 연구의 심화 등이 필요하다.

This paper aims to review the trends of current research on Korean contemporary family history and to suggest future tasks. Until the 1980s, research generally sought to identify the characteristics of the nuclear family based on modernization theory. However, with the introduction of Marxist and feminist analysis since the 1980s and the spread of everyday-life history and gender history studies since the 1990s, efforts have been made to break away from the modernizationist stance and explain changes in the family in a more complex way. There is increasing interest in the norm of the “normal family,” which has rarely been considered a problem in the past, and in the others outside the boundaries of the family and excluded from it. As future tasks of family history research, it is necessary to study the actual situation of the family, to explore the historical formation and change process of the “normal family,” and to deepen research on politics and family relationships.
