6·25전쟁 시 중공군은 북한을 돕는다는 명분외에 자국의 안전과 보호, 그리고 국내반동세력을 제거하고 모택동의 혁명적 신념과 중공의 국제적 지위를 높이기 위한 수단으로 전쟁개입을 결정했다. 특히 다섯 차례 공세 중에 3차부터는 강원지역을 중심으로 전투가 전개되었다. 이에 중공군은 1950년 10월 25일부터 1953년 7월27일까지 한국전쟁에 참전하여 국제 전쟁사에 있어서 중요한 전환점을 이루었고 군비경쟁과 북대서양 조약기구에 확대 및 군사화를 초래하기도 하였다. 아울러 미국과 중공 간의 우호가 회복될 어떠한 희망도 무기한 사라지게 되었다. 동시에 북한과 중공 양국은 6·25전쟁을 계기로 형제적 혈맹 관계로 발전하게 되었다.
6·25전쟁은 중국이 전장에서 성공적으로 서방 군대와 균형을 맞출 수 있는 황금의 기회를 제공했고 한반도에서 중공의 성공은 국제사회에서 강대국의 지위를 얻게 해주었다. 또한 중공이 6·25전쟁에 참여함으로써 소련의 전반적인 지원을 받는데 성공했다.
이렇게 실익을 챙긴 중공이라 하더라도 강원지역의 틀을 벗어나지 못하였다. 6·25전쟁 중 강원지역은 양측에 있어서 전략적으로 중요한 지역이었다. 더욱이 강원지역은 그때나 지금이나 냉전체제의 희생양으로 미국을 중심으로 하는 자본주의 대 중공을 대표로 하는 사회주의 진영의 산물로 존재하고 있다는 사실이다. 이것이 어쩌면 중공의 강원지역 참전의 세계사적 의미가 가장 큰 것이 아닌가 사료된다.

The Korean War provided China with a golden opportunity to successfully balance with Western troops on the battlefield, and the success of heavy corporation on the Korean Peninsula earned it a position as a powerhouse in the international community. In addition, China succeeded in receiving overall support from the Soviet Union by participating in the Korean War.
Even the hollow, which took advantage of this, could not escape the framework of the Gangwon region. During the Korean War, the Gangwon region was a strategically important region for both sides. Moreover, it is true that the Gangwon region exists as a product of the socialist camp representing the capitalist public centered on the United States as a victim of the Cold War system at that time and now. It is believed that this may be the biggest meaning of the world history of the participation of the heavy industry in Gangwon Province.
