본고의 목적은 이청준 소설에 있어서 해석적 지연공간의 수사학적 활용과 그 치유적 효과에 대하여 살피는 것이다. 본고는 이청준 소설에서 발생하는 큰 틀에서의 치유적 효과가 단순히 텍스트 내적인 개념이 아니라, 텍스트와 독자 사이의 상호적 연결 그리고 더 나아가 대화 과정을 통해서 출현한다는 사실을 밝히고자 한다. 우선 이청준 소설이 적극적으로 텍스트의 지연공간을 구성한다는 사실을 두 층위로 나누어 살펴보았다. 실종과 추적의 모티프는 이야기 내부의 인물 차원에서 탐색담의 구조를 통해 주체가 스스로의 분열을 감당하고자 하는 방식이다. 두 번째 층위는 주체 내부의 논리를 통해서 확장되는 서술적 차원이다. 진실을 말하기 위한 상황에서 진술불안과 진술 불가능성을 전제로 텍스트적 해석을 확장하는 것이다. 수수께끼와 에피파니라는 질문과 응답의 형식이 바로 그것이다. 진실에 대한 실체적 응답이 아니라, 진술 불가능성을 전제로 해서만 가능한 비유적인 응답이 그것이다. 마지막으로 텍스트적 지연공간을 통해서 실제로 이청준 소설의 치유적인 효과가 발생하는 논리를 대화적인 역동성과 해석적 긴장이라는 논리로 구체화해보았다. 앞서의 지연공간이 텍스트 내적으로 구성된 것이라면, 그러한 지연공간이 이제 독자가 참여하기 위한 해석적 공간으로 확장된다. 이때 인물의 내부적 분열만이 아니라, 그러한 분열을 다시 매개하고 역동적인 대화 과정을 가져올 수 있는 텍스트 내부의 해석적 공간과 텍스트 외부의 독자의 자리가 늘 환기되어야 한다. 결과적으로 텍스트와 독자 사이의 대화적 역동성이야말로 이청준 소설이 지향하는 문학적 치유의 의미를 구체화하는 것이다.

This paper examines the rhetorical use of interpretive dilatory space and its therapeutic effect in Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel. It further highlights that the therapeutic effect of the large frame in Lee's novel is not simply a concept within the text, but emerges through the mutual connection between the text and the reader and also through the dialogue First, the dilatory space of the text composed in Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel was examined in two layers. First, the motif of disappearance and pursuit embodies the subject’s dealing with their own division through the structure of the story at the character’s level. Second, the descriptive dimension is expanded through the logic within the subject. Here, the textual interpretation of anxiety and its impossibility is expanded in the form of questions and answers of riddles and epiphanies. It is not a substantive response to the truth, but a figurative response solely on the premise of the impossibility of statement. Finally, through the textual dilatory space, the healing effect of Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel occurs in the logic of dialogue dynamism and interpretive tension. If the preceding dilatory space was constituted within the text, it is now expanded into an interpretive space for the reader to participate in. Therefore, not only the internal division of the character, but also the interpretive space within the text that can mediate such division and bring about a dynamic dialogue process, as well as the reader’s place outside the text are thus evoked. Consequently, the dialogue dynamism between the text and the reader is embodied by the meaning of literary healing that Lee Cheong-Joon’s novel aims at.
