In this study I have demonstrated that there is already a great deal of meaningful research on ‘cultural linguistics’ that has been conducted by Korean and European linguists. The result of this body of work is that the ‘cultural turn’ is well recognized in the modern linguistics. However, the theoretical basis of cultural linguistics remains open to debate. Thus, I have discussed in this study that the linguistic theory of Wilhelm von Humboldt could provide a theoretical basis for text linguistics in the era of the ‘Cultural Turn’. This applies specifically to his ‘energeia’ theory as well as his efforts to investigate the relationship between language and human thought.
