본 소고에서는 코로나19 바이러스와 더불어 발생한 차별과 배제, 혐오 등으로 퍼져나가는 문제점들을 비판적으로 고찰하면서 바이러스 팬데믹 시대를 살아가는 데 있어서 우리가 어떤 가치와 정신을 갖고 우리가 당면한 문제들을 극복해나가야 하는지에 대해 살펴보고자 한다. 바이러스 팬데믹은 우리 안에 내재된 편견과 혐오를 거침없이 표출하는 계기가 되었다. 우리는 그동안 바이러스로 인한 원한과 분노, 적개심을 특정 집단에로 돌리려는 강력한 사회심리적 충동을 경험하였다. 중국인 공포증인 ‘시노포비아’는 극에 달했으며, 부머 리무버, 신천지 교회를 ‘병신천지’라고 부르며 조롱하였고, 수퍼전파자가 된 사람을 ‘민폐끝판왕’이라고 비난하고 코로나멍청이라는 뜻의 ‘코비디어트’도 널리 회자되었다. 이러한 혐오 바이러스는 차별받는 이들의 삶을 더욱 황폐화시키는 심리적 기제로 작동한다. 요지는 누구나 감염될 수 있는 바이러스에 대한 취약성을 어떻게 우리 모두의 문제, 즉 공동의 기반이자 공적인 문제로 돌려 해결할 것인가에 있다. 코로나 바이러스를 극복하기 위해서는 진지한 자기성찰을 통하여 연민과 보살핌의 공동체를 만들어야 한다. 바이러스에 대응하는 차원에서의 면역은 공동체 구성원 모두가 함께 물려받고 함께 가꿔야 하는 공공의 책임영역이기에 시민 스스로가 자율적인 주체가 되어 방역의 구멍을 메워야 한다. 공감과 환대는 코로나19 시대를 살아가는 우리 모두가 지녀야 할 미덕이다. 공감과 환대는 타인과의 갈등을 해소하고 인간관계를 순화시키는데 꼭 필요한 미덕이며, 서로 간의 관계를 조화롭고 의미 있게 만드는 윤활유 역할을 한다. 따라서 교회 공동체는 위기와 재난의 때에 환대를 통해 사랑을 실천함으로써 섬김의 모델이 되어야 한다.

This paper examines the problems of discrimination and exclusion, and repugnance caused by corona-virus critically, and to find which values and spirit that we have to overcome these problems. The disaster resulted from the COVID-19 is worst for people who located in the most vulnerable place of our society according to gender, class, racial discrimination. We experience the strongest psychological drives that our resentment and anger and hostility strike out to particular group. The sino-phobia reaches its climax, super-spreader criticized openly, and boomer remover, covidiot was on someone’s lip wide spread. These hatred virus works psychological mechanism that devastate the lives those who are discriminated. The main key is how we can solve this vulnerability of all to virus to make it public issues. To overcome corona-virus, we should make our society the community of sympathy and care through serious self-examination. It is the virtue of empathy and hospitality that we all must have in a era of COVID-19. These virtues resolve conflict with others and purify human relation, and roles lubricating oil that harmonize and make meaningful mutual relationship. Therefore, church community needs to become a servant model that practices love through hospitality at this time of crisis and disaster.
