연구목적: 본 연구의 목적은 고등학교 야구선수의 인성, 자아존중감 및 스트레스의 구조적 관계를 규명함으로써 학생선수의 인성 향상을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 것이다. 연구방법: 본 연구는 전국 소재의 고등학교 남성 야구선수 1585명을 대상으로 진행되었다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 인성, 자아존중감, 스트레스 검사지를 활용하였으며 수집된 자료는 분석의 목적에 따라 빈도분석, 신뢰도분석, 확인적 요인분석, 상관관계 분석, 구조방정식분석을 실시하였다. 결과: 본 연구를 통하여 나타난 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고등학교야구선수의 인성은 자아존중감에 통계적으로 유의한 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 고등학교 야구선수의 인성은 스트레스에 통계적으로 유의한 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 고등학교 야구선수의 자아존중감은 스트레스에 통계적으로 유의한 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 인성과 스트레스의 관계에서 자아존중감은 매개역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 본 연구를 통하여 인성은 자아존중감을 매개로 효과적으로 스트레스를 감소시킬 수 있음을 발견하였다. 이에 따라 더 명확한 인성의 개념 정립과 측정도구 개발이 필요하며 자아존중감 향상에 초점을 맞춘 인성교육 프로그램이 현장에 제공될 필요성이 있다.

Purpose: This research was designed to verify the structural relationship between character, self-esteem, and stress in high school baseball players and to offer basic information for improving student-athletes’ character. Methods: A total of 1,585 male high school baseball players agreed to participate this research. The character, the self-esteem, and the stress questionnaires were used and the frequency analysis, the reliability analysis, the confirmatory factor analysis, the correlation analysis, and the stuructural equation analysis were conducted according to the purpose of the analysis. Results: The results are as follows: first, character positively affects self-esteem. Second, character negatively affects stress. Third, self-esteem negatively affects stress. Fourth, the mediation effect of self-esteem was revealed in the relationship between character and stress. Conclusion: In conclusion, it was discovered that character decreases the level of stress effectively through self-esteem. Thus, establishing an obvious concept of character and developing a better character questionnaire are essential. Above all else, character education programs, which are focused on reinforcement of self-esteem, are needed in the sports field.
