본고는 문헌과 고고자료를 통해 고대 수묘의 기초적 검토부터 백제의 수묘 흔적까지 그 일면을 그려보았다. 수묘와 관련한 기록은 백제를 제외한 고구려, 신라에서만 보이며, 이에 기존 문헌을 토대로 백제 수묘 가능성을 타진해보았다. 수묘인의 역할에 대해서는 단순히 묘를 지키는 것뿐만 아니라 청소와 관리, 그리고 제사를 지내는 업무까지 있음이 살펴졌다. 또한 『日本書紀』기록을 통해 능을 지키는 우두머리가 있었고, 백제 국명 성씨를 가진 ‘百濟春繼’라는 인물이 보인다는 점에 주목하였다. 이를 백제와 관련한 인물 혹은 집단이 일본의 수묘에도 영향을 끼쳤을 가능성을 제시하였다. 아울러 백제 지역 내 수묘와 관련한 고고학적 성과를 살펴보았다. 백제에서는 익산 석왕동 유적과 부여 능산리 서고분군을 주목해보았다. 석왕동 유적은 쌍릉 옆에 위치하면서 어느 정도 위계를 가진 유물이 출토되고 있다. 이를 사비기 무왕이 익산 쌍릉에 안장되고, 수묘하기 위한 집단의 안치와 이들을 관리하기 위한 시설의 조영으로 살펴보았다. 이는 최근 주변에서 발굴된 주거지와 취사용기, 농경과 관련한 흔적이 보여 뒷받침되고 있다. 또한 이전 시기의 영향으로 능산리 서고분군을 주목해보았다. 서고분군에 인접한 2호 건물지와 수혈 주거지는 고분 바로 옆에 위치하면서 난방과 취사시설, 그리고 옆의 의례적 성격이 있는 건물지 등을 보았을 때 빈장 혹은 수묘 등의 의례와 관련한 시설 정도로 가능성을 열어두었다. 본 논고는 기록에는 보이지 않지만, 주변 나라의 영향과 최근 발굴성과를 통해서 백제 내 수묘인의 모습을 상정해 보았다.

We noted Iksan Seokwang-dong and west thombs of Neungsan-ri. Iksan Seokwang-dong is located next to Ssangneung, and artifacts with a high hierarchy are excavated. We looked at this as Sabi Muwang being buried in Ssangneung, a group's presence for Guardian of Tomb, and the contrast of facilities for managing them. We also noted the west thombs of Neungsan-ri due to the influence of the previous period. Located right next to the ancient tombs, a building site with heating, cooking facilities, and ceremonial characteristics was discovered in the Westombs of Neungsan-ri. This paper is not seen in the records, but the influence of neighboring countries and recent excavation results have assumed the appearance of the Guardian of Tomb in Baekje.
