이 논문은 근대 전환기를 살아갔던 荷齋 池圭植(1851-?)이 남긴 『荷齋日記』를 중심으로 그의 사생활에 대한 기록을 살펴보았다. 공적인 업무 활동 이외에 개인의 자잘한 삶을 풍부하게 서술한 『하재일기』 중에서 春軒, 雲樓라는 두 여성과의 만남과 사랑에 나타난 내밀한 사생활을 집중적으로 조명하였다. 『하재일기』는 20년 동안 지규식이 매우 성실하게 기록해 나간 일기이다. 貢人으로서의 공적인 활동, 당대 사회 현실의 변화와 추이 등도 풍부하게 기록되어 있지만, 한 개인으로서의 일상 및 사랑에 대해서도 빠짐없이 기록하였다. 그동안 『하재일기』에 대해서는 다방면의 연구 성과가 제출되었다. 하지만 그의 사생활과 관련하여서는 충분한 논의가 이루어지지 못한 것으로 보인다. 지규식의 가족사, 인간 관계 등에 대한 연구 성과가 제출되었는데, 이 논문에서는 지규식과 연인 관계를 오랜 기간 유지했던 춘헌과 운루라는 두 여성과의 만남과 사랑을 집중적으로 다루었다. 지규식이 『하재일기』에서 상세하게 기록한 연인과의 교제는 가장 사적이며 개인적인 영역이라고 할 수 있다. 이것은 개인의 사생활에서 가장 은밀한 영역이다. 인간의 내밀한 욕망, 사랑과 성에 관련된 이들 자료에 나타나 있는 지규식의 기록 의식을 구명함으로써 근대전환기 개인에 대한 새로운 인식의 진전을 살펴보았다.

This thesis examined the records of his private life, focusing on the Hajae Diary left by Hajae Ji Gyu-sik (1851-?), who lived in the modern transition period. In addition to public business activities, we focused on the intimate aspects of his private life through the richly described personal life. The Hajae Diary is a diary written by Ji Gyu-sik very faithfully for 20 years. Public activities as a human being, and changes and trends in social reality at the time are also abundantly recorded, but it has also recorded every day and love as an individual. In the meantime, various research results have been submitted on the Hajae Diary. However, it seems that there has not been enough discussion regarding his private life. An analysis of Ji Kyu-sik’s family history and human relations has been submitted. In this thesis, I would like to focus on the relationship between Ji Kyu-sik and a woman named Chun-heon who maintained a relationship for a long time. The purpose of this study is to examine the main areas of private life in the Hajae Diary, focusing on the relationship with the lover. The relationship with a lover that Ji Gyu-sik recorded in detail in Hajae Diary can be said to be the most private and personal domain. This is the most intimate area of an individual’s privacy. The progress of a new perception of the individual was examined by examining the recording consciousness of Ji Kyu-sik in these materials related to human intimate desire, love and sex.
