본 연구는 한국어교육 현장에서 활용 가능한 학습 내용을 구축하는 연구로, 의문사 ‘누구누구’의 형태 통사적 특성과 담화기능을 살펴 어휘가 가진 종합적인 의미를 기술하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이에 언어의 실제적 사용을 확인할 수 있는 300만 어절 규모의 균형 말뭉치에서 추출한 예문을 분석하였다. 연구 결과 ‘누구누구’는 기본적으로 모르는 대상 여럿을 지칭하는 데 많이 쓰고, 가리키는 여러 대상을 굳이 밝히지 않을 때도 쓰며 한 명을 가리키면서 구체적인 정보를 밝히지 않을 때에도 사용한다는 것을 확인했다. 또한, 담화 상황에 따라 화자가 인물에 대한 직접적 언급을 피하려는 의도를 가지고 있거나 인물 정보에 대한 구체적인 언급이 중요하지 않음을 드러낸다는 것도 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 그간 사전이나 학습 내용에서 다루지 않은 ‘누구누구’의 의미와 담화기능을 밝혔다는데 의의가 있다. 이를 통해 어휘가 가진 다양한 의미와 담화기능에 대한 보다 근본적인 관심을 가지게 되는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다.

This study is to establish teaching contents that can be used in Korean language education field. The purpose of this study is to describe the comprehensive meaning of Korean Interrogatives, ‘NuguNugu’ by considering the form of vocabulary, syntactic characteristics, and discourse functions. Examples extracted from a three-million words balance corpus were analyzed to confirm the actual use of vocabulary. According to the study, ‘NuguNugu’ basically refers to several unknown people. Also ‘NuguNugu’ is used when the target of several people is not revealed. In addition, ‘NuguNugu’ intends to avoid direct mention of the person, or it reveals that references to specific person information are not important. This study is meaningful in that it revealed the meaning and discourse functions that have not been focused on in dictionaries or teaching contents. This is expected to provide a more fundamental interest in the various semantic functions of vocabulary.
