이 연구는 선교사이자 한국학자인 언더우드(H.H. Underwood, 원한경)가 작성한 ‘한국에 관한 서양 문헌’에 대해 살핀 연구이다. 언더우는 1931년 RASKB(왕립아시아학회 한국지부)에서 편찬하는 「TRANSACTION」 Vol 20호에 이 결과물을 실었고, 전체 186페이지 2882권에 달하는 한국 관련 문헌을 제시하였다. 본고는 이 가운데 한국어 및 한국어교육과 관련한 목록을 중심으로 목록을 수정하고, 첨가하는 것을 목적으로 한 연구이다. 그동안 관련 연구의 1차 사료가 되었던 목록임에도 현재까지 잘못된 서지사항이 수정되지 않았고, 서지를 확인할 수 있는 원문 확인이 어렵다는 문제가 있었다. 이에 본고에서는 전체 서지 가운데 한국어 관련 문헌 목록 110권을 추려 정리하고, 수정된 내용과 원문을 확인할 수 있는 정보를 <표>를 통해 제시하고자 한다. 이 연구는 ‘근현대 서양인 학습자 대상 한국어 학습서 연구’의 일환으로 시작하였다. 언더우드의 ‘한국에 관한 서양 문헌’은 이 시기 서양인 연구자들의 한국어 연구를 규명하는 중요한 토대 자료이기에 일부분이지만 이 목록을 수정하고, 첨가하는 일이 한국어학 연구와 한국어교육 연구의 기초 자료가 될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

This is a study of “A Partial Bibliography of Occidental Literature on Korea” by the missionary and scholar of Korean, H.H. Underwood. Underwood published this work in 「TRANSACTION」 Vol 20 by RASKB in 1931, including 2882 books related to Korea over a total of 186 pages. This study aims to revise and add to the list, focusing on works related to Korean language and education. Although the list has been incorporated into the historical records for related studies, the bibliography has not been corrected to date, as it was difficult to check the original texts included in the bibliography. For this study, 110 books related to Korean literature were collected from the entire bibliography to supplement the information and confirm the revised contents and the original text. The current study began as a part of the “Study of Korean language study books for learners of modern Westerners.” Indeed, Underwood’s “A Partial Bibliography of Occidental Literature on Korea” forms an important foundational material for identifying Korean studies by Western researchers during this period. Thus, amendments and additions to this list are expected to form the basis of future research on Korean studies and Korean language education studies.
