본 논문은 하나의 이름으로 고유명사화되어서 역사적·문화적·지역적으로 동일한 전통과 동일한 지향을 공유하는 ‘하나의 것’으로 간주되고 있는 수행전통이 실제로는 그 내부에 다양한 ‘차이’와 ‘유동’ 혹은 ‘역동’이 긴장하고 있는 ‘여럿의 것들’임을 보이고자 한다. 그러한 차이는 그들이 근거로 삼는 전통 문헌에서보다 수행현장의 구체적·실제적 지침을 들여다볼 때 더욱 분명해진다. 이에 본 연구에서는 성철, 숭산, 송담, 진제, 수불 등 현대 한국 선수행 현장에 큰 영향을 미치고 있는 다섯 지도자의 실제적 수행 지도법을 대조적으로 검토해 볼 것이다. 이러한 연구는 전통적 문헌연구와는 다른 질감의선에 대한 그림을 제공하리라 본다. 오늘날 살아있는 선의 현장의 역동성을 보여주며 그와 함께 사상적 대립과 분파, 융합의 역동이 끊이지 않았던 선의역사가 지금도 여전하다는 것을 보여줄 것이다. 그리고 이러한 현상적 차이와 다양성에 대한 이해와 수용은 특정한 수행전통에 대한 근본주의적이고 종파주의적인 인식 한계에서 벗어나게 할 것이다.

This paper aims to show that there are various ‘differences’ and ‘fluid’ or ‘dynamics’ within a single practice tradition, which is considered a proper noun. As an example, I would like to see how the representative practice of Korean Buddhism, Ganhwaseon, is being taught with various differences. We will look at the specific practices of the monks Seongcheol, Seungsahn, Songdam, Jinje, and Subul. Contrasting review of the teaching methods of the five leaders, which have a great influence on the Korean athletic field, is expected to provide a sense of the different types of lines from the traditional literature studies or the study of the monks' law. Above all, it shows the dynamics of the field of living good today, and shows that the history of good, which has never ceased to exist in ideological opposition, sectarianism, and fusion. And understanding and acceptance of these phenomenal differences and diversity will allow us to escape from the limitations of fundamentalist and sectarian perceptions of specific performance traditions.
