중국과 아프리카의 경제협력과 관련하여 세계적으로 다양한 논의가 있다. 그 중 대표적인 논의는 중국이 아프리카를 제2의 식민지로 삼는다는 신식민주의론이 주를 이루고 있고, 이밖의 다른 논의들 역시 중국의 입장에서 아프리카를 분석하는 것들이다. 따라서 이 연구의 목적은 첨예한 입장차이로 긍정 또는 부정의 의견들이 지속적으로 나오고 있는 중국과 아프리카 경제관계 이면의 상호이익 및 협력관계 현상에 주목하며, 그동안 많은 논란이 되어 왔던 이들의 경제협력관계를 상호의존 관계라는 틀을 통하여 경제협력의 필요성과 의미를 중국과 아프리카의 입장에서 동시에 분석해 보는 것에 있다. 이를 위하여 우선 지난 경제협력의 변천사 및 정책 변화에 대한 이해를 통해 전반적인 중국과 아프리카의 경제협력 배경을 검토한다. 이후, 나이지리아의 사례를 바탕으로 현재 양국의 경제협력의 특징이 어떻게 나타나고 있는 지를 동시대 이슈를 중심으로 살펴본다. 나이지리아의 경우 현재 중국과 경제발전이라는 하나의 목적 아래 상호의존 관계로 나아가고 있다. 특히 중국과의 경제 협력을 통하여 나이지리아가 자국이 지향하고자 하는 경제구조 개혁, 특히 인프라 구축과 제조업 및 서비스업 분야의 집중 투자에 도움을 받고 있다. 중국 또한 중국 내부에서 해결하지 못했던 제조업 공장 운영의 문제점 및 서비스업의 해외 확대 등을 나이지리아와의 경제협력을 통해 해결해 나가고 있다.

The Sino-African economic ties have attracted the attention of scholars. The representative arguing over the topic is regarding Neocolonialism, which China establishes a colony in Africa. Most scholars also attempt to analyze the Sino-African relations from China's angle. To date, nevertheless, there has been minimal research regarding the perspective on interdependence relations between China and African countries. Thus, under the precondition of interdependence relations, the study aims to look into the necessary and meaning of the economic ties in the Sino-African relations based on the viewpoint of China and Africa at the same time. For the research, it examines the history of change in the field of economic cooperation and policy so as to the general understanding of Sino-African economic ties. Then, it analyzes the character of economic cooperation, focusing on contemporary issues via the case of Nigeria.
