Preparation of composite anion-exchange membrane with poly(3,3'-(hexyl)bis(1-vinylimidazolium) bromide) and poly(vinyl chloride) for organic vanadium redox flow battery

In this study, we prepared the advanced composite anion-exchange membrane with poly(3,3'-(hexyl)bis(1-vinylimidazolium) bromide), PHVIB, and PVC in order to increasing the chemical and mechanical stability in organic electrolyte. We firstly synthesized HVIB via substitution nucleophilic bimolecular (SN2) reaction, and then prepared PHVIB through radical polymerization. Next, we prepared the advanced anion exchange membrane by solvent casting method after mixing PHVIB and PVC. The properties of obtained advanced membrane was characterized. The organic vanadium redox flow battery performance using the prepared membrane is in progress.
