본 논문은 제1세대 다산학 연구자로 평가할 수 있는 위당爲堂 정인보鄭寅普의 철학과 사상을 실심實心과 실사實事의 종합으로서의 실학이라는 입장에서 재조명하는 것을 목적으로 한 것이다. 그간 실심실학의 연구는 조선 후기인 근세, 대한제국기, 일제강점기인 근대의 구분으로 진행되어 왔다. 그런데 근세라는 개념은 일본의 역사 이해와 연결된 것이고, 이를 한국의 학자들이 차용하고 있는 것이다. 그러므로 근세 개념의 정당성은 앞으로 역사학계에서 논의되고 정의되어야 할 것이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 근세 개념의 사용은 한국에서 지금까지도 활용되고 있다. 특히 실심실학과의 관련성 속에서 근세는 조선 후기에 해당하는 개념이 되었다. 그리고 조선 후기, 대한제국기, 그리고 일제강점기 한국의 학자들은 실심과 실학이라는 용어를 빈번하게 사용하였다. 그렇다면 그 개념의 내용은 동일한 것인가라는 문제를 제기할 수 있다. 따라서 조선 후기, 대한제국기, 일제강점기에 보이는 실심, 실사, 실학 등의 개념 내용을 추적하는 것이 필요하다고 할 수 있다. 그런 다음 현재의 학자들이 바라보고 있는 위당 정인보의 시각을 점검할 필요가 있다. 이는 위당 자신의 철학과 사상 그 자체라기보다는 오늘날의 시선 속에 놓여 있는 위당 정인보이기 때문이다. 이를 이 논문에서는 정인보론이라고 규정하였다. 그리고 다시 이러한 시각을 조정하기 위해서 정인보가 제시하는 실심실학을 실심과 실사의 종합으로서의 실학으로 규정함으로써 앞으로의 우리가 필요로 하는 새로운 실학의 모습이 어떠해야 하는지를 살펴볼 수 있을 것이다. 위당 정인보는 일명 강화학파로 인정되는 하곡 정제두의 후예이다. 그는 양지로서의 실심을 이야기하고, 그러한 실심이 실사에서 실행되는 것을 실학이라고 하였다. 위당에게 실심은 양명학을 계승한 것이고, 그 실심은 실사에서 실행되어야 하는데, 그 실사를 계승한 이들은 바로 반계 류형원, 성호 이익, 다산 정약용으로 이어지는 근기실학자들이다. 그리고 거기에 다시 심혼心魂, 민국民國, 근세近世 등의 외래 사상의 영향도 있는 것이다. 새로운 정인보론을 구성하기 위해 필요한 것은 다음의 것들이다. 첫째, 근대와 실학의 관계를 명확히 하고, 탈근대의 현재적 관점을 표현해낼 수 있어야 한다. 둘째, 오늘날의 실심이 무엇인지를 다시금 재정의해야 한다. 셋째, 실심실학은 이데올로기화되어서는 안 된다. 그것은 말랑말랑한 그 무엇이 되어야 하며 딱딱해져서는 안 된다.

This paper aims to re-light the philosophy and ideas of Jeong In-bo, who can be evaluated as a first-generation Tasan learning researcher, from the standpoint of Practical Mind’s Practical Learning. The Study of the Practical Mind’s Practical Learning has been in the classification of early modern, Korean Empire Period, and the Japanese Colonial Period. The concept of early modern, however, is linked to Japan’s understanding of its history, which Korean scholars are borrowing. Therefore, the legitimacy of the early modern’s concept should be discussed and defined in the history community in the future. Nevertheless, the conceptual use of the early modern is still being used in Korea. In particular, the early modern became a concept equivalent to the late Joseon Dynasty amid the association with Practical Mind’s Practical Learning. Practical Mind’s Practical Learning has been used in early modern, Korean Empire Period, and the Japanese Colonial Period each. If so, one could raise the question of whether the concept is the same. Therefore, early modern, Korean Empire Period, and the Japanese Colonial Period to track the content of Practical Mind’s Practical Learning becomes primary. Then, it is necessary to check the perspective of the current scholars in Jeong In-bo. This is because it is not Jeong In-bo’s own philosophy and ideology itself, but rather Jeong In-bo, which lies in the eyes of today. This is defined in this paper as Jeong In-bo theory. And in order to adjust this perspective again, we will be able to reconstruct Practical Mind’s Practical Learning presented by Jeong In-bo so that we can see what the new practical aspects of our future needs to look like. Jeong In-bo is a successor of Jeong Je-du, who is also recognized as a Kanghwa scholar. He spoke of his practical mind as an innate wisdom, and called it a practical fact that effect. For the party, the truth is that it succeeded Yang-ming learning, and that fact-finding should be carried out in the due diligence, which is the short-term realist who led to the Ryu Hyung-won, Lee Ik and Jeong Yak-yong. In addition, there are also beyond seas events such as mind-spirit, Republic, early modern and so on. What is needed to form a new Jeong In-bo theory are the following. First, it should be possible to clarify the relationship between modern and practical Learning and to express the present view of the post modern. Second, we must redefine what the practical mind is today. Third, Practical Mind’s Practical Learning should not be ideological. It should be something soft and not hard.
