본 연구는 정신질환 증상을 동반한 지적장애아동을 부모대신 친인척이 양육하는 사례를 중심으로 양육자의 내적 경험을 생애사적 관점에서 분석하여 양육경험에 내재한 본질적 의미를 드러내고자 하였다. 이를 위해 연구참여자1인을 선정하여 수집한 양육경험 생애사 자료를 최종적으로 Mandelbaum의 생애사 분석기준으로 분석하여 삶의 영역, 전환점, 적응에 대한 생애주제 범주와 개념을 도출하였다. 삶의 영역은 ‘부모를 바라보며 책임감을 키워온 생활, 언니의 불행으로 시작된 조카양육, 조카양육으로 고군분투하는 생활, 스트레스로 중단한 조카양육’으로 나타났으며, 연구참여자 양육경험 관련 생애사적 전환점은 ‘맹목적 애정만으로 장애에 맞선 양육, 정신질환으로 인한 양육무기력과 소외감, 내 아이에 대한 걱정’으로 분석되었다. 또한 이러한 생애 전환점에 대한 적응은 ‘희망을 부여잡고 양육 이어가기, 나와내 가정을 다시 돌보기’ 로 나타났는데, 이러한 생애사적 관점에서 바라본, 요보호 장애아동친인척 양육경험을 관통하는 본질적 의미는 결국 가족과 생명에 대한 사랑이었고, 이를 위한 양육자의 전념과 희생이었다. 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여 장애아동 친인척 양육경험의 생애사적 함의와 장애아동 가정보호로써 친인척위탁양육 지원을 위한 특수교육 및 사회복지적 실천 방안을 논의하였다.

This study purposed to reveal the essential meaning inherent in the kinship fostering experience by analyzing the nurturer's experience from a life-history point of view, focusing on cases where relatives nurture a child with intellectual disabilities accompanied by mental health problems. The data of kinship fostering experiences collected by selecting one participant were finally analyzed using Mandelbaum's life history analysis criteria to derive the categorization and conceptualization for lifetime topics. The life dimensions appeared as 'A lifetime feeling responsible for poor parents during growing up, Beginng the Fostering of nephew caused by misfortune of elder sister, Struggling life due to kinship fostering the nephew and Giving up the kinship fostering under stress'. The turning point was analyzed as 'Fostering with blind love only for overcomming the diabilities, Feelings of inactivity & alienation on fostering due to metal illness and Concerns about my own child'. In addition, adaptation to this turning point was ‘Carrying on the fostering with the hope for the better future and Taking care of myself and my own family again'. Based on the results, the implications of special education and social welfare practices for kinship fostering of children with disabilities were discussed.
